Bad move, when you argue the case that it isn’t 4G on a product launch, the show it as 4G after a software update, it looks like egg on face.
Bad Apple!
I don’t think so. If it’s faster than 3G, then why not say so?
Re-watch the iPhone 4S keynote.
WTF??? What keynote address were you watching? They spent several minutes talking about 4G on the new iPad.
this article refers to the iOS update for the iPhone 4S, which is a HSDPA/HSUPA device.
Neither of these is 4G, which was clearly explained on the 4S keynote, they are an enhancement of 3G, which sometimes get referred to as 3.5G.
For Apple to now claim it is 4G after making the case why this technology is not 4G during a keynote (I.e., making the point that Android phones were often misleading consumers).
Worth watching that keynote again!
To get a f
If iOS 5.1 displays “4G” on an iPhone 4S, then I agree with you – false advertising and shouldn’t be there.
it does display 4G on the AT&T 4S.
It may be that AT&T considers it 4G.. not apple, note it’s only on the AT&T 4S and not the Verizon 4S.
What, and your reality doesn’t mesh with everyone else’s, nice move for Apple.
Why is it those ones need to be so negative during any Apple release. Nit pick and Apple is so Bad, bad, bad… B.S.
I don’t think this is Apple’s doing at all. I think it’s strictly AT&T. I don’t see them making this change for Rogers or Telus, and they have HSPA+ networks too.
The update servers must be getting bombed. I get a network error, even though I’m fully connected…
yeah getting “Contacting Software Update server..” ad infinitum for last hour or so here.
These servers are getting pounded harder than a porn novice in her first gangbang flick.
lol
I’ll see your “lol” and raise you a ROFLMAO, despite being a Yankees fan and spanking my Phils 2 to 1 in the spring training opener.
Yeah, like your not into spanking.
mine went through.
Updated and sporting a 4G icon 😉
Not sure I like the new camera slider on the lockscreen though.
And you can finally delete photos from Photo Stream !!
Thank you for repeating point 2.
…and there’s a new camera-on switch. When you power on the iPhone, just slide it up and you’re in the camera. Handy!
The gods have answered my wishes!!!
See, virgins, your sacrifice wasn’t for naught.
I like the old “button” not the slider though.
Give it time I guess. I like that it’s always there, no more double click to see it.
Updated to 5.1 and am now updating all the iWork and iLife apps along with a few others. It is pretty slow. Apple’s servers are apparently getting flooded right now…
With the update my phone doesn’t get hot anymore. When charging and using it a lot my 4s would get wicked hot. Hopefully this means much improved battery life.
Also fixes the April 1st 2012 calendar bug in ios 5.01
Snappy!
Seriously, I’m happy that the email crashing bug got squashed, at least on my iPad 2; still need to test it on my iPhone 3GS.
still unable to download the update for any of my ios devices any ideas?
Since my iPhone 4S says 4G now, does that mean my grandfathered unlimited data plan on AT&T is now 5 GB since they’re calling it 4G?
