Apple CEO Tim Cook, “who took over from Steve Jobs in August, will likely emcee the event at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco — the same stage where Jobs introduced the iPad in 2010 and its successor, the iPad 2, in March 2011,” Connie Guglielmo reports for Forbes. “Analysts are expecting a new touchscreen tablet with 4G LTE wireless, a faster processor, and a higher-resolution screen that may incorporate the Retina display technology and Siri voice recognition from the iPhone. But will it be mind blowing?”
“Shaw Wu, an analyst with Stern Agee in San Francisco, thinks so,” Connie Guglielmo reports for Forbes. “‘iPad 3 could be that `mind-blowing’ product,’ said Wu, who has a ‘buy’ rating on Apple shares. ‘The key feature we hear that it may include is a 4G LTE wireless modem, which would make web browsing a very pleasant user experience — almost as good as a strong PC hardwired connection.’”
Guglielmo reports, “Apple co-founder Steve ‘Woz’ Wozniak said the company probably won’t deliver the features he’s most interested in. ‘My desires are more in the area of iOS steps toward allowing Siri to work with other apps, and, although I know Apple won’t do it, making Siri controls user settable for your own custom commands that work with your apps, AppleScript style,’ Wozniak said in an email.”

I think iOS 6 will see Siri open to other apps. As much as I would love it as well, I wouldn’t think Apple would push forward with it just yet.
I was thinking about this some more… how will Apple handle look-ups if you can use 3rd party apps? If I just say “Look up x,y, and z” how will the OS determine the best app to use (or will I be able to select a preferred app). An easy fix would be changing it to say, “Check ESPN for last night’s hockey scores” but then that takes away from the appeal of using natural language with Siri
I agree. Your idea the other day would be “mind blowing enough” to incorporate AppleTv into the iPAD as software and provide a small receiver. Thats so Apple – perfect move.
I hope SIRI is updated such that, “specific applications” say Apple only Apps will see integration of SIRI. Not 3rd party apps. I don’t care for that – be it ready or not.
But one thing SIRI on the iPAD3.
I’d like to see Siri come out of beta and not require a network connection to access my calendar, address book, etc. before it gets expanded to other products.
I agree with observer, we won’t see Siri open to other apps until iOS 6 (on iPhone 5).
While the iPad 3 will be a big jump forward, I don’t see it being “mind-blowing”. A retina display and 4G LTE (which I think is dubious to be included) aren’t mind-blowing advances.
An iPad “retina” display is indeed mindblowing. Apple doesn’t even make a computer that could display all those pixels in landscape or portrait, even on a 27 inch iMac. It’s a resolution at that size that has never been done. And it’s gonna cost somewhere around $500?
If that doesn’t thoroughly impress you I feel bad for you. It’s an incredible advancement. Nothing like it has ever been tried.
Huh? The 27″ iMac has a 2560×1440 resolution.
Yes. But it’s not tall or wide enough to display the full iPad 3 screen in either portait or landscape.
So, there are enough pixels but they’re not in the right place.
Putting a higher resolution screen and 4G LTE chip inside isn’t “mind-blowing”, it’s more evolutionary advancement. Very nice, to be sure, but not “Holy Sh•t!” worthy.
I agree…we aren’t thinking big enough. “Mind-blowing” certainly doesn’t refer to much-discussed upgrade features.

Totally agree. We are getting a little jaded when 10x better than the last version…. is not enough. 🙁
And ManBearPig is right, we just do not understand how hard it is to do some of this manufacturing and make it work… Check out the patents for the magic mouse… making things work can be very hard.

LTE does not quite meet my definition of mind-blowing just yet.
LTE that drains the battery is not going to be mind blowing, it will be infuriating. It’s not like most people live in areas where LTE is available anyhow.
4G service isn’t even really 4G service yet. Last time I looked the speeds are nowhere near the spec and in my opinion do not warrant being called 4G. True 4G-LTE advanced is supposed to peak between 3-5 Gbits. Verizon LTE is between 7-30 Mbps. Not even close..
Wake me up when they roll-out Advanced-LTE..
Apple was realistic when SIRI beta came out – STEVE said they hoped they would have a year on the competition.
SIRI will grow.
Honestly it is only ones’ opinion what is “mind blowing”.
Personally the resolution on the iPad 1 and 2 are great for me.
If all that is offered is this better screen then Apple is falling behind.
So I can not accept Apple falling behind. I think they will have some great things to show us – beyond a screen.

With terms like “Mid-Blowing” tossed around, I hope we aren’t disappointed due to unrealistic expectations. Another reason I don’t pay much attention to rumors.
I agree, though, that the iPad already is “mind-blowing.” I must get one…
