“When Apple added China Telecom as the second wireless carrier to sell the iPhone 4S in China, we wondered when the world’s largest wireless carrier, China Mobile, would get to launch the phone,” Trefis Team writes for Forbes.
“Almost as if in reply, Qualcomm announced the launch of its fifth-generation Gobi platform that would “support multiple LTE bands on a ‘single device,'” Trefis writes. “This means that the iPhone 5, which is very likely to have LTE capabilities, can support both the under-trial 4G network as well as the so far incompatible 3G network that China Mobile runs.”
Trefis writes, “With over 650 million subscribers, China Mobile not only dwarfs its U.S. counterparts, Verizon and AT&T, but also its Chinese rivals, China Unicom and China Telecom, by close to 3 and 6 times, respectively… The availability of a subsidized iPhone on China Mobile’s network will be a huge opportunity for Apple to gain a strong foothold in the Chinese market.”

What is nice to see as a stockholder and an American, is that Apple refused to drop it’s pants in order to secure a deal with China Mobile.
Tell me one other US Company that had the you know what to hold out for the right deal. This is exactly the reason why I’ve stuck with Apple stock and will continue to hold. They just don’t make short sighted bone headed decisions for personal gain.

AT&T dropped his pants to secure a deal with Apple, and I don’t think that’s good.
It’s not about pants. It’s about fair business deals, win-win business relationships.
Now AT&T is having a hard time to make money out of each iPhone subscriber, so they come with ideas like trying to have developers pay for bandwidth.
Well AT&T may have made a bad financial deal, but remember they were being steamrollered by Verizon, yet they didn’t have to hand over their intellectual property like everyone else trying to gain access to china.
