You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see what’s coming: Apple continues to dominate the so-called ‘tablet’ market, with Amazon’s Kindle Fire picking-up converts at the low end — squeezing other players out of the game. And Apple’s Mac sales are propping up the entire PC industry,” Jonny Evans reports for Computerworld.
“The latest Strategy Analytics figures tell us global tablet shipments climbed 150 percent. Apple captured 58 percent of 27 million units in Q4, while Android devices took 39 percent,” Evans reports. “‘Apple shrugged off the much-hyped threat from entry-level Android models this quarter,’ said Peter King, Director at Strategy Analytics, in a press release.’ While I can accept that strong sales of the Android-powered Kindle Fire and moves to shift stocks of failed Android-powered tablet devices will have impacted general market share figures, I find these figures challenging to configure in terms of real-world experience. When was the last time you saw an Android-powered tablet used in public? I have seen a Kindle Fire in use, but not much else.”
Evans reports, “The PC is dying. No, not in a dramatic train wreck or a victim of a high-profile assassination, nor with an invasion of highly-skilled Ninjas. Not like that. The old model is simply fading away. Where Apple steps today, everyone else will follow. What do you think Windows 8 is an attempt to emulate. Recent Gartner and IDC numbers confirm this philosophy. Note the words of Tom Reestman. He notes that Apple’s Mac sales grew 20.7 percent while the PC industry as a whole shrank 5.9 percent. That doesn’t sound too bad, until you recognize Mac sales are now propping up the entire industry.”

i don’t need a faster computer for office administrative work anymore. most computers are fast enough.
the innovation on the software side for office productivity has started to mature which in turn lengthens out the upgrade cycle for computers.
add also the historical prices of Macs to the current prices of Macs and those with money to buy computers find the premium to buy a Mac is a lot less.
a phone upgrade cycle is 1-3 years…a computer is 3-5 years now.

The proper time to assess this is 1 year after the launch of Windows 8, and after all the major Taiwanese/China PC companies have launched their Windows 7 tablets, and when Nokia has had a few quarters selling their Windows Phones in conjunction with a parallel Windows 8 desktop/tablet. Before that happens, such articles are just for the entertainment of Mac fanboys.
And in the meantime we Mac fanboys will have a grand old time lambasting the likes of you and your cretin friends, that is if you have any among the wharf rats that perceive Windows as some kind of food, though it be offal.

Key point here. I also have seen a Fire in public… NO other android based tablet. I do see iPad’s all the time.
more importantly when do i see any tablets AT ALL? never actually. ive only see a tablet out and about ONCE….and that was when i was doing some temp work for a company.
now as far as “apple holding up the pc industry”? FALSE. how many MILLIONS of pc gamers are still out there? now how many millions can actually use a mac to play a game to the full extent of its beauty and graphics? NONE! the point is, windows is like the android OS…you can mix and match the guts to find a build that suits you, and smashes whatever apple brings out for your use for CHEAPER…admittedly i wouldnt mind a macbook pro, but at a $1200 price tag id much rather just buy a gaming laptop and be able to game on the game rather than sit through loads of lag for my entertainment.

I have a late 2010 Mac Pro, dual 2.40GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, with the Radeon HD 5870 graphics card. I can run Fear 3 and Crysis 2 in Windows 7 using Boot Camp, and there’s NO LAG. I can see the veins in tree leaves at 500 yards with the sniper scope.
Android is dying, so you might want to find a better comparison.
