“A Canadian man has found an unusual way to get through U.S. Customs – by flashing an iPad,” The Canadian Press reports.
“Martin Reisch says a border officer let him cross into the United States from Quebec after he presented only a scanned copy of his passport on the computer tablet,” The Canadian Press reports. “Mr. Reisch’s entrance into the U.S. without a hard copy travel document hints how stricter rules at the American border may still have some flexibility, at least in certain cases.”
The Canadian Press reports, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection says it will accept documentation such as a passport, an enhanced driver’s licence or a Nexus pass from Canadian citizens entering at land crossings. The list doesn’t mention facsimiles, like scans and photocopies.”

Spent some happy times in British Columbia but Canadian bacon- and beer- is truly horrible.
Sorry, but Canadian beer (in Canada) beats by a long shot %99.9999 of the piss water beer we make here in the US. Although imported Canadian beer is still significantly better than US beer. Don’t get me started on the Mexican piss water they import into the US.

I’ve crossed the US-Canada border between Quebec province into Vermont, and New Brunswick into Maine, and they’re not all that lax, considering the 9/11 bombers came across this border and flew out of Portland, Maine. You used to be able to get back in the US just with a driver’s license, now you need your passport. A facsimile should work, but I doubt they just flashed their iPad, I’m sure it was scrutinized carefully.

Nothing new here. I have used my scanned driver’s license and passport on my iPhone before to fly domestically and internationally.
