“Apple will be holding a product event later this month in New York, Kara Swisher is reporting, and we’ve confirmed independently with a source,” Alexia Tsotsis reports for TechCrunch.
Tsotsis reports, “According to the source the event will not involve any hardware at all and instead will focus on publishing and… will unveil improvements to the iBooks platform, according to the same source, and is not ‘major.'”

What’s an iBook? Isn’t that a legacy portable computer that pre-dated the MacBook? If they get the name wrong, can the facts be any better?
So you failed to read the bit that says:
“Tsotsis reports, “According to the source the event will not involve any hardware at all and instead will focus on publishing and… will unveil improvements to the iBooks platform…”
It was perfectly clear to me, so how come you missed it?
exactly
On! She meant the iBooks APP, not the PLATFORM.
I am predicting iBooks app for Mac OS X. 😀
yes please.
Kinda odd there has not been one yet.
If it’s not “major” why waste time and money on a media event??? It will only sow the seeds of disappointment and more “post-Jobs Apple is faltering” if they waste the media’s time on a non-“major” release.
No seeds of disappointment here. Apple are smart, and I’m sure they’ve taken charge of the leaks to make sure no one gets their hopes up. “No hardware; Not a major event.” etc. etc. Nip the rumor mill in the bud.
They didn’t do any such thing with the iPhone 4S release, when everyone was expecting a redesigned iPhone 5.
Granted this here is still a rumour.
On a general note, I think Apple need to put book apps within iBooks. It seems silly that you can get books in two places depending on how they’re published and how media rich they are. Splitting out book apps from the app store would probably also declutter it a fair bit.
hehe.. it would be awesome if Apple released an E-ink display device at this event. Amazon would freak out. (Not happening I know, but it would be hilarious if it did happen.)
Definitely! E-INK is far better a viewing experience for books than the iPad. Apple NEEDS E-INK.
Zinio and Kindle apps do just fine.
I’m a college student and it would be awesome if I could get my textbooks through iBook
Hate I can’t use iBooks on ios5 with my jail broken iPad and iPhone. It’s not apples desicion if I jailbreak.
