Apple devices winning big in Middle East and North Africa

“Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are huge in the Middle East and North Africa, where they account for 55 percent of mobile Internet traffic, according to a new survey by Dubai-based Effective Measure,” Darrell Etherington reports for GigaOM. “The iPhone and iPad in particular are doing well, splitting top device honors among the countries covered in the study.”

“Effective Measure’s measured audience for the Middle East-North Africa region is 43.7 million spread across sixteen countries,” Etherington reports. “For Apple to own such an impressive share of the market in an area where BlackBerry has traditionally been in high demand is an impressive achievement.”

    1. Here in Saudi Arabia, the iPhone and iPad models that support FaceTime are sold with the feature disabled from the factory. Only way around it is to Jailbreak, or buy the products from “non-official” channels (bought elsewhere and imported here via the “grey-market”).

      1. The actual number of “doe-eyed houris” is never specified in the Koran. And it may be a mistranslation, as claimed by linguist “Christoph Luxenberg”. And evidence is that such reward is available to all Muslims, not just Martyrs. The important thing, of course, is that too many young, male, sexually-charged Muslims elect to believe in this reward and are motivated by it.
