“The Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License today announced that U.S. Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania has sent a letter to Apple requesting the removal of a free app that allows users to easily create digital fake IDs from the App Store,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.
“While the app had been available in the App Store for over two years, it appears that Apple has now quickly responded to Casey’s letter by removing the app from the App Store,” Slivka reports. “The Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License had sent a letter to Apple’s Scott Forstall back in April, requesting removal of the application. Apple apparently did not, however, respond to that initial request.”

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the application in question wasn’t actually marketed as a “fake ID” app, more like “make funny IDs for entertainment purposes”. I find it hard to believe that Apple would casually approve an application created for the sole purpose of committing a crime.

I wonder how many people know they don’t have to pay for a driver’s license, since the right to travel cannot be converted into a privilege the government can place a fee on?
The USSC has ruled on this matter countless times, yet states still insist on charging a fee (tax) for a driver’s license because the vast majority of people are sheep and they believe everything they are told.
One USSC opinion on converting a right into a privilege states; “If the state does convert your right into a privilege and issue a license and a fee for it, you can ignore the license and a fee and engage the right with impunity.”

No argument about the appalling drivers. Maryland has some of the worst drivers in the nation; especially out here near the Pax River Naval Air Test Center.

Freedom of movement is a right. Freedom to drive a car is not a right – it is a privilege. You are misinterpretting what the Supreme Court meant in their ruling.
There are numerous USSC cases that site regardless of the means of conveyance, they can not charge for a license. They can require a person to have one, which I am in agreement with. They just can’t charge for it.
Recreating a state seal is a felony (trust me, I know from my fake ID making days). So, this developer could be facing jail time if he’s located in the U.S. I’m surprised this was approved by Apple in the first place.

Are ALL apps that create ID cards to be pulled? What about graphic art creation apps in general? Photoshop? What about camera apps that support printing?
We must stop all of these flagrant attempts to undermine authority.

No, but the developers have included digital representations of state seals as part of the ID backgrounds. Look at the pictures in the article. This is very different than the examples you cite.
