Taiwan hit with record iPhone 4S pre-orders, carriers’ servers crash

“All three of Taiwan’s major mobile operators said they saw ‘unprecedented’ demand for the iPhone 4S, and the demand was so high that websites crashed the same day,” Chris Chang reports for M.I.C. Gadget.

“According to local media reports, the iPhone 4S has broken pre-order records in Taiwan and all three mobile operators’ websites went down under the stress of demand from customers,” Chang reports. “Taiwan’s largest provider, Chunghwa Telecom, was expecting 150,000 iPhone 4S preorders. However, the company is forced to extend its website bandwidth to cope with demand. The company’s senior executive said that Chunghwa has broken online sales records, and has already received 210,000 pre-orders.”

Chang reports, “On the other side, Taiwan Mobile received 80,000 pre-orders and Far Eastone received 90,000 pre-orders.”
