Overwhelming iPhone demand crashes Flipboard servers

“Flipboard’s servers couldn’t handle the volume of new users as its first iPhone app launched today,” Gregg Keizer reports for Computerworld. “Flipboard shipped its first iPhone app earlier today, but within hours the company acknowledged that its service was down, overwhelmed by demand.”

“Flipboard confirmed that the error was not on the user’s end,” Keizer reports. “‘Due to high demand, our service is currently down,’ the company said on its Twitter account at 11:30 a.m. ET. ‘We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.'”

  1. Is it just me or does this not look a lot like CoverFlow but in a vertical orientation with Twitter/FB integration? Kinda smacks of Windows Metro too – tiles and all.

    Got a laugh out of the Demo Vid. Not one single person in the video is actually using Flipboard, but rather, they are seen playing and romping with their kids, sans technology. Told me all I need to know about what actually using FlipBoard would do.

    1. I use both equally and will say that I too like Zite a tad more. However, I’ve noticed that lately that Zite routinely crashes and makes it almost impossible to use for more than ten minutes. It crashes a lot…and only started doing it lately. I’m not sure if its the new iOS or a Zite update that’s the cause.
