“Your next MacBook Air should support a total of three displays at once via one Thunderbolt connection, according to a leaked roadmap of Intel’s plans for its Ivy Bridge processors in 2012,” Alex Heath reports for Cult of Mac.
“With Apple’s next-generation laptops primed to sport Intel’s Ivy Bridge silicon, it’s very likely that future MacBook Airs and Pros will be able to support two external displays plus the MacBook’s built-in screen,” Heath reports. “Currently, the Sandy Bridge processor will allow the MacBook Air to power one external display via a Thunderbolt connection. The 13-inch MacBook Pro can handle two external displays, but that’s only when the built-in screen is turned off.”
Heath reports, “Ivy Bridge will introduce the ability to use three screens at once across Apple’s entire MacBook line.”

More displays is always good. I can’t wait for the day I could attach a thunderbolt cable to my macbook pro and do this:
Do away with the bezels and that would be a sweet entertainment system.
Bought my 2nd Air for the same reason as the first- Portability. Couldn’t care less (really!) about external displays and Airs. Now if you’re talking MacBook Pro, that’s a whole ‘bother ball ‘o wax.
Would love to do this with my Mac Pro tower. Oh wait, still no Mac Pro with Thinderbolt.
I’m not paying crazy money for the privilege of multiple monitors. Can’t they make a Thunderbolt to multiple Displayport/HDMI outputs?
