“Now that most of us are used to taking all kinds of actions by touching touch screens of our phones and tablets, it is easy to forget that such ease of use was not available to the masses only five years ago,” Arora reports. “The technology is certainly magical, but more magical to an investor’s ears was the utterance by Steve Jobs, ‘Boy, have we patented it!'”
Arora reports, “Apple’s arsenal of patents is not limited to multi-touch technology but covers a broad range of patents that are giving heart burn to Google Android.”

Once again…… You want the TRUTH!?
Market tracker NPD Group shocked the public when its channel checks showed that there were just 1.2 million non-iPad tablets sold in this country through the first 10 months of the year. It would have been substantially less if Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ ) hadn’t marked down its webOS TouchPad tablet to as little as $99 in a seemingly going-out-of-business clearance sale.
In short, despite all of its success as a mobile operating system for smartphones, Google’s (Nasdaq: GOOG ) Android has been a dud for any manufacturer actually trying to sell gadgetry at a profit.
… I remember when that was more computers than were sold World-Wide in a Year!
OK, that was a while back. Last Century, actually. Still … that’s a Whole Lot of Computers! AND, they are much more powerful than those from last century. Sure … iPad sells (not ships, SELLS) many times that many in an even shorter time. We don’t yet know if that means a) they OWN the market or b) they REALLY own the top of that market. Or, maybe both. But there is certainly room for readers that can cost less as they are not required to do a great many tasks.

This a flawed article, I didn’t bother reading it all because it’s obvious from the title that this writer is clueless.
Apple is not interested in licensing it’s patents to anyone. In the Isaacson book, it is reported that Steve Jobs tells Eric Schmitt that he is not interested in google’s money, he wants them to stop infringing Apple’s IP.
Unless Tim Cook decides to completely change direction, this is still the prevailing view at Apple.

Thank you for saving the minutes lost had I clicked through. Apple has as much interest in licensing as Google does in honoring IP.
There seems to be an assumption that Apple wants royalties from Google and Microsoft. I believe that Apple wants them to stop using the technology and pay for damages. That’s where the billions come in to play.
There were be no royalties related to any part of the Apple UI patents.
