“Hewlett-Packard Co is evaluating a potential sale of its webOS software platform in a deal that could fetch hundreds of millions of dollars but likely less than the $1.2 billion the company paid for Palm Inc in 2010, said four sources close to the matter,” Nadia Damouni reports for Reuters.
“Several technology companies have expressed an interest in buying the division, which is seen as attractive for its patents, the sources said,” Damouni reports. “Oracle Corp might be among the likely technology firms interested in the asset, one of the sources said.”

Oracle makes some of the most convulated hard to use software known to man. Powerful yes but usability calls back on the days of druid ike mainframe overlords.
They’ll prob just use the patents to sue everyone because their taste in design makes MS look like the next Apple.

Yes, but many of them are hidden away in desk drawers.
It doesn’t matter whether or not WebOS is good or bad, HP already fired the team that developed it. I can’t imagine Oracle could do anything with the code now, even if they wanted to !
Oracle is probably purchasing WebOS to keep it of circulation.
