“As spotted by Racked, [Apple’s] rustic temporary Apple Soho Store at 72 Greene Street will serve customers while renovations at the main Prince Street store continue,” Jordan Kahn reports for 9to5Mac.
“With the same exposed brick and real wood aesthetic of their Covent Garden Store in London, we’re thinking this space looks good enough to keep, thick wooden staircase and all,” Kahn reports. “Luckily Apple Store fans in NYC have something to look forward to with the Grand Central Terminal Store slated to open up sometime this month.”

Horrid? Really? Apple probably put tens of millions of dollars into a “temporary” location that will only serve NYC for a few months. That’s a pretty impressive investment so it’s customers wouldn’t have to overcrowd the other stores in the city. All done for your convenience, and you’re going to nit pick aesthetics?

I gotta admit, it does come off as one of the lame Microsoft copies of an Apple Store, but at least it’s got the good stuff.
That store exemplifies the SOHO neighborhood. I’ve been in the store personally, and it’s got a particular personality… much like many homes in the area.
To say it’s ugly would be like going to SF and saying victorians are ugly. You might not like it- but it’s a particular flavor unique to the area.
I’d like to see cardboard tables with hand written lemonade style signs. It is temporary after all.
