MacDailyNews Take: One of our favorites is one we use all the time when running errands: “Siri, remind me to get [items] in [number] minutes.” What are your most valuable Siri commands?
“Show me the route to BMW Northwest”
Please deposit [$$$] in my bank account.
Good one! Did it work?…
Sadly, no. I’ve left feedback with Apple.
I was able to establish a “relationship”. Now Siri knows what contact to call when I say “call my wife”…
What about, “Call my mistress?”
I’m sure your wife will be using that one…
I tried and Steve Ballmer picked up. Halloween nightmare indeed!
as long as your mistress is not my wife
{What about, “Call my mistress?”}
Did Siri reply, “I found 20 of them for you, I listed them in order of popularly” ?
“Buy AAPL stock when price drops more than 5%”
Get Minka Kelly and tell her to be at my house at 7. No underwear required.
There was this one demo video, where a lady tells Siri something like “Remind me to call [person] when I leave the store in five minutes”.
Now, Siri knew the “five minutes”, and I know it can do time-related things. But what if you leave it off? “Remind me when I leave the store”. Can Siri use the location service to tell when or if you are outside the store, regardless of time intervals?
Because, that would be cool beyond comprehension.
That is exactly what Siri can do with location based reminders Let the cool rule
If you ask for a reminder (as detailed by MDN in the Take) does it create an entry in the Reminders app? If it does, does that reminder go away once you do it? Is there a way to verbally tell Siri that you’ve just did something and it will delete the reminder from the Reminders app (if one was created at all)?
Siri can do some useful calculations for you:
“calculate $23.35 plus sales tax”
Siri will look up the sales tax for your current location and compute it for you.
Another useful one:
“what is a 20% tip on $80.23 for 4 people?”
For me Siri responds with a list of tax consultants.
What is a tip for a lousy waiter?
I love Australia. We don’t “tip” anyone. But I like my command “what’s on tv tonight at 8:30”
now lill’ phil , thats not quite right in Oz there are plenty of service industry jobs that rely on tipping, though the service industies in the states can show the world a thing or two about tipping and why they lead !
Never tip in Australia. Wait staff are paid an appropriate wage.
“do my underpants need washing?”
…got me a launderette 32 miles away in Cambridge, UK
I do live in a very rural area ;-(
If you have to ask the answer is yes!
Do Limeys wear underpants?
Not when I’m shagging your girlfriend
Wow, I live exactly 32m from Cambridge too! Although my particular area is more likely to be descibed as ‘shitty’ than ‘rural’.
Thetford forest isn’t that pants….
The most useful for me so far have been “read text message”. “Reply” and “Text (name) and tell them (whatever). I’m sure I’ll fine even more useful commands as I further explore the interface.
Has anyone trained Siri to call them “Master, Hot Carbon Based Lover, Stud Muffin, Italian Stallion or Biff” ?
just name your iPhone “Hot Carbon Based Lover’s iPhone” in iTunes and enjoy
Cool! hehe
Add a field to your own contact info as Nickname and call yourself whatever you want.
How are the search ones considered “secrets”???
Little things that make a huge difference… so much better an interface for finding music whether it’s band, song, or playlist.
Just imagine what the situation where someone on a party whispered to your iPhone, while you’re not paying attention, “show me porn NOW”.
My favorite Siri command?
“Siri, what do you think of Microsoft?”
Siri responds…
“I think differently”
After getting some useful information I sometimes reply “thanks” or something similar. Siri has a number of nice replies for that.
You don’t need Siri to ask, “Play playlist (name of playlist)”
That one works via Voice Command on iPhone 4 and 3GS.
Ask Siri to tell you a joke.
Also, say “Knock, knock”
Siri will do all sorts of math problems for you! My test question was “Whats the volume of a sphere with a radius of 3 feet?” Since I’m terrible with math, i LOVE this feature
