“Despite the fact that he is no longer CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs is ‘expected’ to appear at Tuesday’s iPhone event alongside current Chief Executive Tim Cook, a new report claims,” Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.
“The information stems from a Reuters story filed on Monday, which suggested Jobs will appear at this week’s iPhone event,” Marsal reports. “However, the report also cautioned that ‘a no-show by the Apple co-founder will not be a major disappointment.'”
Marsal reports, “Author Poornima Gupta did not indicate whether the expectations of an appearance by Jobs come from inside information obtained through sources, or if rumors of an appearance by Jobs are simply speculation on the part of Wall Street analysts quoted in the story.”

iPhone 4 antenna is times better than an antenna with the usual construction, according to AnandTech testing.

actually, consider the facts (yes, facts) that 1) the iPhone 4’s reception increased substantially over the prior versions; 2) that the iPhone 4 had better reception in poor areas where it didn’t have reception before; and 3) that all competitor’s phones had antennae issues demonstrably worse.
The AAPL competitors and media hyped it up as a “problem” (they needed somethig, anything…) Sales figures prove it is anything but — best selling phone ever.
Stupid? No. Just looking at the facts and drawing reasonable conclusions.

The “problem” is that the iPhone 4 has a good antenna – too good. It picks-up a signal where no other phone would, and then those calls drop more often. So, on another phone, you wouldn’t have even been able to make the call to begin with. They would’ve been better-off PR-wise by saying, “No signal.”
A case makes this better by lessening the effect your hand has on binding the wifi and 3G antennas together – hence the free cases.

Got my iPh4 the day after release. I use it in various U.S. locations and Europe. Yes, I see the bars diminish when held a certain way, but the performance seems unaffected by the grip. If there is indeed a signal drop, it can’t be much.
Please, just Facetime him from the event, have him on the BIG screen, smiling down at everyone. Love you Steve!

I would be a little surprised by an in-person appearance. But I think it is VERY LIKELY that a FaceTime call is in the plans. Steve himself has made FaceTime a regular feature at the last couple of keynotes, so being on the other end of one would be a great way to both keep FaceTime in play, include Steve Jobs in a very important product launch, and NOT infringe on Tim Cook’s spotlight — all at the same time.
He’s going to be in the back seat next to woz giggling, with the duplicate remote that controls the slides.

It is not “despite”; Jobs has everything to do with all of products and services Apple might release in the nearest couple of years, so he obiously has the right to appear on Apple events this time and in the future (though, of course, it will depend on his health).
Giant Steve Jobs on stage like the 1984 video. It’s heartbreaking even thinking about the possibility of him being there or not being there. The Facetime appearance would be cool beyond belief, especially if Steve looked relatively healthy. I’m excited about the iPhone- an appearance by Steve would Totally blow me away.
