FBR trims Apple iPhone Q3 view, ups iPad estimate

“FBR Capital’s Craig Berger this morning offers an update on what he’s heard from the electronics supply chain regarding Apple’s component orders — a topic of special interest to the chip stocks he follows given Apple’s position as the world’s largest semiconductor buyer,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s. “He reports that his ‘checks’ of the supply chain have caused him to 26.1 million units, thanks to a decline in the build rate assumption for the iPhone 4.”

“It now appears the iPhone 4 builds will be just 13.9 million in the quarter, down from 15.2 million previously. Mind you, that 26.1 million estimate for total iPhone units is still way above what Berger had originally forecast as just 23.6 million,” Ray reports. “Berger is keeping his estimate for at least 30 million iPhones to be built in Q4, with 23 million of those being the ‘iPhone 5.'”

Ray reports, “Berger also raised his iPad estimate for next quarter, the calendar Q4, from 13.7 million units to 17 million.”
