“On Friday, Apple filed motions to stay in two of its various lawsuits with Motorola, arguing that the pending acquisition of Motorola Mobility (MMI) by Google has resulted in ‘a fundamental loss of Motorola’s patent rights,'” Florian Mueller reports for FOSS Patents.
“One of the lawsuits was started by MMI in the Southern District of Florida (with both parties asserting six patents each), and the other one by Apple in the Western District of Wisconsin (with Apple asserting 15 patents and MMI asserting 6 patents),” Mueller reports. “Under the merger agreement with Google, MMI is severely restricted in its ability to enforce its patents and negotiate settlements. Therefore, Apple’s lawyers argue that MMI currently lacks standing (meaning the right to sue).”
Mueller reports, “Whichever party may prevail, Apple says it would be prejudiced.”

Sounds like a good Plan. Let’s hope Apple prevails.
Interesting tactic by Apple. This could bring Apple and Google directly into the same suit, with potential wide-reaching ramifications.
Apple needs to throw Google and Baby android under the bus for stealing Apple IP and be done with it.
Interesting… So Google is paying to be sued by Apple?
Apple is looking to delay the IP lawsuit until Google owns MMI. That will end up being a costly and painful acquisition on the part of Google, I suspect.
