The patents Google gave to HTC to assert against Apple

Florian Mueller reports for FOSS Patents, “HTC’s new assertions against Apple are spread out over three different filings.”

• HTC amended its recent (second) ITC complaint against Apple by throwing in five additional patents (the original one related to three patents),

• amended its companion lawsuit in Delaware accordingly, and

• filed a completely new lawsuit in Delaware over four other patents.

Mueller reports, “I’m sure Apple always knew that Google might give patents to embattled Android device makers. That didn’t prevent Apple from enforcing its rights in the first place. It won’t make Apple back down now. There’s too much at stake for that, and it’s easier to file lawsuits than to win them.”

  1. What would stop Apple from becoming an Android partner?
They would be under no obligation to use the OS, since the other hardware makers are free to use WP7. Apple would “own” all those Motorola patents and any others bought by Google and they would still be able to sue the other hardware makers.

It would really be funny to see his move by Google backfire on them.

  2. REunson you have made the most interesting suggestion I have ever seen.

IMHO, Apple should go for it!

    And FUNNY is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!

Every one should repeat this suggestion everywhere on the Internet until Apple picks up on it.

    It is absolutely brilliant!
