“AT&T announced on Wednesday that it will offer the HTC Jetstream, AT&T’s first 4G LTE/HSPA+ tablet on September 4th for $699.99 with a new two-year contract [$35, 3GB monthly data plan],” Todd Haselton reports for BGR.
“The Jetstream, which we brought you exclusive details on in July, is equipped with a 10.1-inch ‘HD’ display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats and an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash,” Haselton reports. “It runs Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) with HTC’s Sense user interface and AT&T will include the HTC Scribe pen at no cost for a limited time.”

I’ve had it up to my wazoo with expanded memory. I bought a WM6 phone with expandable memory and managing that was a freaking nightmare. The iPhone by contrast with its integrated memory which is managed by iTunes in the sense of syncing what you want across makes it seem seamless to me. I don’t need to futz with a file system to move apps around.
Just a stepping stone to Windows 8.
It has got to be worth it. You get a pen with it!

Crap? That’s the best news ever! Given the stupid money I give AT&T each month what we need is MORE COMPETITION (you know the free market actually working). 4 carriers with the iPhone 5 this fall means that I may see a price drop as Sprint and T-mobile finally get to compete against the AT&T/Verizon duopoly.
Government should mandate every county create it’s on carrier so competion will devour the price to pennies for cell service. Although, you may get cell service for cheap only in your county.
Well, so much for competion.

Math doesn’t add up.
iPad w/3G: starts at $629, no contract. Buy a month of data when you need it.
Jetstream w/LTE: $700, and mandatory 2-year commitment totalling $840, so you’re required to spend $1540 over 2 years.

And 3G access is $15 or $25 per month, depending on amount used. I started out with the $25/mo plan and dropped back because I can get WiFi pretty much anywhere I need, and if not then 3G is my backup.
$700? Stop… wait!… And 1 month later … you can actually get HTC’s Jetstream at a fire-sale price of $99.
what this tells us definitively is the iPhone 5 will have LTE/HSPA, confirming the reports about new AT&T hardware being installed at Apple stores.
and probably also that the iPad will not get it until iPad 3 next year. HTC could never hope to get $700 for its LTE tablet if the $630 iPad supported LTE too.

They try to obfuscate the real resolution numbers to mislead customers. They say it is WXGA in crappy PC jargon. Since I don’t speak gibberish I had to look it up at wikipedia to discover that WXGA = 1280×768. HD my ass.

Only thing I don’t like about the Jetstream is the cost, but that can be overlooked considering the many features this tablet comes with. For example, it has a dual-core processor so that it can handle anything quickly, 4G to download super fast, and a huge 10.1 inch screen that would be perfect for watching movies on. The Jetstream is on my list for my next tablet. I am a huge movie streamer, and I think the Jetstream would do great if I got one. I use the DISH Remote Access app for all my streaming needs. I love this app because it lets me stream live TV and recorded shows from my 922 SlingLoaded receiver to my phone anywhere I am in crystal clear HD! Whether I am on my way to school, or in another country, I can watch any channel I subscribe to. As a customer and employee of DISH Network, I have been using the app for a long time on my HTC Thunderbolt, and I know it will work wonders on the Jetstream!
