11.97km is low stratosphere which extends from 10-50km. Terminal velocity is 9.8m/s/s. A skydiver jumping out of an altitude of 4,000m will free fall at 195m/s so this is a relatively sedate fall rate.
I mean 195km/hr.

So I take it that Jobs has resigned as CEO of Apple to take up the reins of running things back in Syria as its next dictator after Assad.
Why do you keep reposting that?
So that it’s clear that this asshole, who many here despise for his asinine baiting is shown for what he is and gets ignored.
Please stop wasting the electrons. The regulars in this forum know BLN. You have made your point and you are now just irritating people.
The person who obsessively re-posts dozens of times, in an asinine attempt at baiting worthy of a seventh grader, is the one who gets ignored.
BLN certainly doesn’t do that. He’s part of the mix, and disagreeing at times is part of the fun.
9.8 m/s/s is gravitational acceleration, not terminal velocity.
Now we know what happened to the latest iPhone prototype!
It came falling out of the sky
Watching it full screen made me airsick.
Not a first – MDN reported on a father and teenage sons from New York City doing this, I think is was earlier this year. Video was available all over the ‘Net, included info about their rig.
Cool just the same.
What’s a ballon?
is a lighter than air apparatus with just one inflated bag, instead of two like a ballOOn 😛
Methinks a “ballon” is actually a heavier-than-air balloon that weighs as much as a milk (or iced tea, take your pick) gallon. It’s ideal for scientific experiments.
NO $HIT!!!! How dumb of site is this?????? Some grade schooler’s blog I suppose………
“How dumb of site is this??????”
Certainly no “dumber” than YOU, given the above misconstruction. (Proofreading is clearly not YOUR bag, either.) Oh, and one more thing: DO try to relax your overuse of punctuation marks, OK??????????????????????????????????????????
Ca c’est un “balloon” en Francais – It’s “balloon” in French. Thanks for the nod to Canadian bilingualism, MDN!
Why was Cingular sponsoring them?
WTH this video about the iPhone wont play on my iPhone cause its flash! I think this would have been more cool if the video was recorded using the iPhone
If a ballon can get that high I bet a ballson can fo higher. 😉
I’m dizzy

the optimum phrase was “PC at work”
Great work, MDN, posting up a video that asks for a browser with native H.264 support or Flash on your iPhone app. Genius, any chance you could not fuck it up next time?
I agree 100%
i just watched the video on my iPad 2 – no problem. Obviously, Flash not required.
Worked fine for me on my iPad 2. But actually it’s a bit silly. I have seen such home made videos for years. nothing new.
The video plays fine for me on my iPhone. If it’s not working for you, click on the link below the black square.
Watch exciting HD “Space Ballon” movie how father and son sent an iPhone into space in August 2010. They achieved 19 miles!
http://www.brooklynspaceprogram.org
..they even build an iMacRobot:
As dedicated Macuser I’ve sent balloon with an iPhone 19 miles above the Earth in August 2010. Watch our HD movie !!!
I wonder what shows up on Find My iPhone?
Why does the audio fade out at 1:00? How did the iPhone survive the extremely cold temps in the upper atmosphere? Why weren’t the iPhone’s internal moisture sensors activated by the obviously rainy conditions? And finally, how did they get it off the top of what looks like a very tall tree!
