“Research in Motion has filed an official opposing action against Apple’s trademark filing for ‘WebKit’ in Canada,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple.
“The opposing action which was filed earlier this month has been granted an extension of time,” Purcher reports. “Many industry players will be very interested in the outcome of this decsision which could be issued in early 2012.”
Purcher reports, “Research in Motion has been granted until November 22, 2011 to produce their official opposition details. Until the contents of RIM’s opposition are officially made public, we’re a little in the dark. With that said, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if details of their complaint and opposition to Apple’s WebKit trademark application eventually leak out by parties interested in seeing Apple’s trademark application go down in flames. Time will tell.”

By the time the judge passes judgment on this RIM will have gone to the dog house, so it’s looking like WebKit will outlast RIM at this point. RIP, RIM.
The missing MDN take, thanks!
Hey BLN… breeze seems to be a fan of yours, or is that a stalker?
Gone to the dog house? How about the slaughter house? DCW.
(MDN, you’re missing a character on the end of the URL, the link is broken)
I’m very surprised by this move by RIM, or maybe I’m not. They’re desperate. What are their grounds for this? Ironic that they would do this since they use WebKit in their own devices.
Apple is well-known to use *Kit-labeled frameworks in their operating systems. I’m eager to see the outcome of this sad attempt by RIM.
Why sue over this trademark? Uses don’t really know about “WebKit;” they know Safari, BB browser, Android browser, etc.
BDF. Rename it KonquererKit. Lame move RIM. We get it. You’re ticked off at iPad’s success and PlayBook’s FAILure. So grow up and compete in the marketplace. Stamping your feet and having a little girl tizzy doesn’t solve your problems. 😯
Oh! So that’s RIM’s strategy.
RIM is a Canadian company so that probably gives them some points.
I’d rename it “RIMSucksAssKit”.
LOL!
