RUMOR: Apple to hold special media event on September 7th

Kodawarisan offers the first specific date for Apple’s fall media event,” Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors.

“According to the Japanese site, [citing “a source in the know”], Apple is planning on holding their usual iPod-announcing event on Wednesday, September 7th,” Kim reports. “Apple has traditionally held their Fall media events in the first part of September with the past three events taking place on September 1st, 2010, September 9th, 2009, and September 9th, 2008.”

Kim reports, “Last year’s event introduced new iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle models. This year’s event, however, has been widely expected to also incorporate the rumored iPhone 5 announcement.”

  1. All but confirms that the iPod touch 5G must be regurgitated crap if they’re willing to announce it before the iPhone. If it was a close sibling of the iPhone 5 then there’s no way they’d announce it first.

iPod touch users get the shaft once again.

What exactly are you talking about?
This is a media event held every year to announce the iPod line-up, and the Touch is really peripherally related to the iPhone. It’s form factor is different, having a slimmer curved back with no antenna, or GPS or microphone. It’s only the shape of the screen and its OS that are common. If you’d seen pictures of the last version of the Touch, would you have said ‘oh, it’s identical’ if the iPhone 5 came after? I very much doubt it.

“iPod touch users get the shaft once again.”

Just can’t understand what your point is. In what way? The Touch always has more storage, and an identical OS, so how are they being shafted?
Honestly, you’re talking out of your ass.

      1. + 1 (for Rorschach)

This could be an iOS device type event — iPod touches and iPhones. There’s no giving the touch the shaft.

Maybe you’ve been using the Bing app too long.

  2. Product announcements should not overlapp; September has been for iPod announcements.

Expect iPhone 5th generation around June 2012. Don’t be disappointed. It may be announced Jan 2012.

  3. it will announcement regarding iTunes enhancements that trickle down and some refreshes of the iPod line
    that’s it
    but that’s cool too
glad that a Japanese website knows more than anyone about the date of the event? 🙂
