Touchscreen orders hint at Apple shipping 5 million iPad 2 units in July alone

“Apple may be planning a larger production ramp than first thought for the iPad 2 this summer,” Electronista reports.

“Part supplier leaks Tuesday have the company’s combined partners shipping five million touch panels just in July,” Electronista reports. “Digitimes’ sources said that Apple had also moved five million in June, making it likely the company is shipping as many or more during the holidays.”

Electronista reports, “If accurate, the production estimate could see Apple further out in front of the market than first thought.”

  1. I do not think Apple is producing near enough for the demand.

I do not shop WalMart but happened to be in one the other day. I found the Electronic department and was surprised at the large selection of dusty tablets on display, but no iPad.

I waslked around to a large end cap and a whole case and display just for iPads with only one on display running a demo screen. All the other positions were empty as even their displays were sold too. No replacement stock what so ever. I was stunned, who would buy an iPad from a WalMart near a city that has four Apple stores and several long time Apple dealers? Much less a large number of them that this WalMart apparently had at one moment in time?

I haven’t checked but I hear Target, Toys Are US, and a variety of other stores now sell iPads. Are they all low on stock too?

Costco shot itself in the foot when they broke from Apple, and that saddens me as I like Costco. They should fire their executive who made that decision and try to mend fences ASAP. I do not want to buy an iPad 3 from WalMart!

      1. Not totally. Was in the local (small town) Wal-Mart, where I usually walk by the iPad display, just to see how much inventory. There was a guy there, asking the worker “Is this all you have?” The worker checked, said “Yes”. The guy said, “I’ll take them” (4). He paid cash.

Sometimes people cruise WalMart because they might actually have some iPads you can buy on the spot.

  2. This sounds like further support for the case I have been making that the iPad 3 will come after the Christmas holiday. Apple still shows a 1-2 week delay in shipping new orders from Apple Store. Perhaps the orders for screens accounts for the Digi Times stories which incorrectly attribute new orders for iPad parts to be for the new iPad.

  3. I think many people are confusing iPad2 + iOS 5 as iPad3.

This is going to be a bloodbath for wanna be one once the general public learn how transparent and important are the features of the iOS through the Apple clever commercials.

Apple has cleverly created a new line of business: iOS
of course the customers for this new product are development community who will enrich the iOS eco-system with more magic.

Thanks Apple for not accepting the “It has always been this way” mantra…
