“Samsung Electronics Co. dropped a patent-infringement suit against Apple Inc. (AAPL), filed at a U.S. federal court in April in response to allegations its Galaxy products copied the iPhone and iPad,” Bomi Lim reports for Bloomberg.
“Samsung Electronics dropped the suit on June 30 ‘to streamline the legal proceedings,’ Nam Ki Yung, a spokesman for the Suwon, South Korea-based company, said today in a telephone interview,” Lim reports. “Samsung will continue to defend its patent rights through a counter-claim in an earlier suit Apple filed at the same court in San Jose, California, he said.”

Lim reports, “Litigation between the two companies, which compete in the mobile-device market, is under way in at least five countries including South Korea, Japan, Germany and the U.K. Withdrawal of the California suit won’t affect other U.S. cases or patent- violation complaints Samsung raised against Apple in other countries, Nam said.”

Samsung’s Lawyers do have some BIG COJONES to even consider a stunt like that.
Samsung dropped their completely frivolous counter-suit because its sole purpose was to intimidate Apple, and it didn’t work.
“We’re dropping our TOTALLY valid lawsuit because we — uhhh — want to streamline the legal proceedings. Yeehhhh, that’s the ticket. Because — uh — we don’t want to take up more of the judge’s time than necessary. Yeh. Honest.”
What is Samsung’s mobile division worth? Apple lights just buy them and eliminate the irritant!

May be after reading digitime news they realized they are no longer a part of iPhone5 and iPad3 supply chain.
Samsung has finally decided that being Apple’s “supplier” (and not losing that business) is significantly more important than being Apple’s copycat “competitor.”

This is no big deal.
The judge suggested that Samsung drop the separate suit and prosecute the counterclaims against Apple which alleges the same claims. The judge felt it would be duplcative to have the same claim pending in two different courts.

Funny, I looked everywhere on the net and did not find anything that is even close to what you posted.
A few site reported this as you posted but it was an opinion, so please post the link that is proof that a judge said this and please no opinion post just facts.
