“Many of the Apple authorized resellers that can be found on AppleInsider‘s Mac Pricing Guide are completely sold out of the polycarbonate MacBook,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider. “Specifically, Amazon, MacConnection, On Sale and J&R are all out of stock.”

“The timing makes sense, as the polycarbonate MacBook was last updated more than a year ago, in May of 2010,” Hughes reports. “The entry-level hardware was given GeForce 320M graphics and an Intel 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor.”
Hughes reports, “Any new hardware that may be released is not expected to debut until after the launch of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion… With the new MacBook Air occupying the $999 price slot with great success, it’s possible that Apple could lower the price of its white MacBook.”

Or it could be cancelled (“With the new MacBook Air occupying the $999 price slot with great success”).
Or the next “batch” of the current model could simply be waiting for Lion to be pre-installed.
Or, maybe there really is a refreshed version that sells for $899. 🙂
Apple could drop the plastic model entirely. They are not as durable as the unibody pro models.
It is “unibody,” but just not made of aluminum. 🙂

I like the look of the white MacBook, so I hope it stays around in some form.
Actually you are wrong, ploycarbonate plastic does not dent at all and takes a massive drop to crack. The plastic might scratch easier but that is not as bad as dents. Scientists agree with me.
I agree with him.
Good one!
I remember when the white macbook was a very competitive notebook product. I also remember when it had very little difference between itself and the 13 in MBP once that product came out.
I do think it has potential to be a great little computer for college students again but it is in dire need of a refresh. The specs need to be updated on this and the mac mini.
I think it would be incredible if you could get a refreshed model that was $700, $600 with educational discount. That would really goose sales.
Drop price to $795 or $849 …..
My art student daughter’s dribbling for whatever item her ever-lovin’ Dad puts her way.
From my older daughter and sister’s experience, polycarbonate is fine and durable.
