Best Buy halts online MacBook Air orders ahead of expected update

“Best Buy gave one of the clearest signs yet on Sunday of a new MacBook Air about to launch,” Electronista reports.

“The retailer’s listings for current-generation models now show all of them as ‘not available for shipping,'” Electronista reports. “Physical stores are still carrying the ultraportables, but the move may be just to consolidate supply where it’s most needed.”

Electronista reports, “In the UK, Best Buy will allow ordering a MacBook Air with 128GB of storage, but only for in-store pickup and then only at some locations. Some stores both in the US and the UK have run out.”

  1. The MacBook isn’t dead but it’s in a coma lying in the intensive care ward with a near flatline. There’s only so much differentiation you can do but still I see a vibrant market for MBs in the education sector. But given how mollycoddled students are these days I’m not sure if they’ll settle for a MB instead of a MBA or MBP.
