“Apple has lowered its expected shipment volume of iPhone 4 for the second quarter of 2011 from 20 million units, to 17.5-18 million units consisting of 16 million units of the 3G version and 1.5-2 million units of the CDMA version, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers,” Yenting Chen and Adam Hwang report for DigiTimes.
“Production of iPhone 4S will begin in August and the earliest launch may be in September,” Chen and Hwang report. “All the 3G and CDMA chips for iPhone 4S will be supplied by Qualcomm and the rear camera will be upgraded to a 8-megapixel resolution model with OmniVision Technologies and Taiwan-based Largan Precision to supply image sensors and lens kits respectively, the sources indicated.”

I cannot wait to upgrade from my 3G.
Apparently you can wait. Did you hear that two new iPhones have already come out since the 3G?
Hey Apple easy on the megapixel, just give us better low light please.
Big time this. Screw more megapixels, it’s a camera phone with a pinhole for a lens and most photos end up on Facebook and other sites where a) they limit the display size of the photos, and so b) uploading larger pictures is a waste of bandwidth and time. Give the existing megapixel-density sensors better low-light sensitivity so they don’t come out all grainy (even with LED flash) and I’m there. Okay I’ll be there anyway, but I’ll be much happier.
You’re shouting at the one company that was saying this exact thing when they first released their iphone camera… Pfft.
Don’t you remember SJ on stage talking about photons?
Or iPhone 4s can be announced on 6th June with shipment date in late June or in July.
See no reason why would Apple want to wait for September; nothing prohibits them to make an upgrade now, when Samsung Galaxy S 2 is expected.
And this might be the reason why the production of iPhone 4 was lowered for this quarter.
Or maybe not, or maybe this rumour about order lowering is just yellow press imagination.
Why waiting until september only for a 8 mEgapixel camera. The duAl core procesor are ready(the a5). And ios 5 is suppouse to be ready. I dont see why the extra time. I expect that apple surprice me.
It will be worth a SEpt/Oct availability if that surprise is THUNDERBOLT!
Thunderbolt will be good and maybe facetime hd’s for 720p video call.
I am betting on a iphone 5 with A5 processor and 4in screen. To launch the iphone 4 in white so close to a launch in june makes little sense.
The specs on the rumored iPhone 4GS are lame and not even in the ballpark of the new Droid phones. If this is all Apple is offering this year then I have the feeling a lot of people, like me, are going to pass or move to another platform.
I’m sure SJ is quaking in his boots at the prospect… knock yourself out.
I’m sure SJ is just quaking in his boots at the prospect. Knock yourself out in ‘droidland.
Focus less on specs and more on output. Having higher spec equipment doesn’t mean it will produce better results. I’ve checked out the camera on the Xoom and it pales in comparison to the iPad 2. In other words, the fastest cars don’t necessarily have the highest horsepower in their class.
Apple needs to introduce a 4G LTE phone this calendar year. Then have a 4G phone ready for when our lazy wireless companies finally offer real 4G…..
just my $0.02
That will be timed with pinpoint accuracy for my current contract renewal 😉
I’ve been amazed how useful both cam and vid have been on my 3GS – and that’s for publishing, not Facebook – so having more mpxls would be sweet.
What happened to Sony supplying the 8mp sensor?
For those able to objectively compare mobile phones, it is worth mentioning that the absolute best camera phone is the Nokia N8, with Zeiss optics. Nice to know Apple plans to eventually catch up in this area.
