Analyst: ‘iPhone 4S’ coming in September; no LTE; adding Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Mobile

“Apple‘s iPhone 5 launch in September isn’t likely to include LTE functionality, Jefferies & Co. analyst Peter Misek asserts in a research note,” Eric Savitz reports for Forbes. “‘According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support,’ he writes in a research note.”

Savitz reports, “But he also says that “industry checks indicate Apple will likely announce Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Mobile as new carriers… As for LTE, he says the Qualcomm LTE chipset Apple would have used ‘is currently not achieving yields sufficient for inclusion in the iPhone 5.’ He says Apple had hoped to have the LTE chipsets ready, but was planning a version without LTE called iPhone 4S.”

  1. 4Gs on t-Mobil would be sweet. I hope AA&T doesn’t buy them. They seem to be the only reasonably price big carrier plan out there. I just drop AA&T and got Metro PCS. Unlimited Voice, Text and Web for $40 a month, Taxes Included! No contract.

    1. I don’t know if it was here, but I thought I read that AT&T said they would grandfather any T-Mobile plan once the merger went through. The merger has no chance of completing or getting approved by September, or quite some time after that, so if the iPhone does come out on T-Mobile you should have no problem enjoying whatever plan they have available for it at launch.

From personal experience with AT&T, I still have a legacy dealer plan with them from 2004ish; whenever it was that they first switched over to GSM. $5.00 for 1200 and it’s still working on the old 2G network with no issues. If I were you I wouldn’t worry about AT&T taking over T-Mobile and just go out and enjoy a magenta iPhone.

  2. Anything to stop the onslaught of Android devices. I am so freaking sick of every single human being I know owning a freaking Android device. I can’t believe Apple allowed Android to take over the phone market like that.

    1. Something was going to become the dominant “all other devices” OS anyway. People who don’t care or know any better will always flock to those first. Difference this time is that there’s truly no giant price difference.

    2. Really every single human being?
Yesterday I noticed that my boss has replaced his BB with an iPhone. He must have not read the message about everyone switching to Android.
Android is successful because the cost to phone makers is minimal. It allows them and the carriers to play the same game they have for years.
The question is who is making the money. Mostly Apple. It doesn’t matter if Apple only have 20% of the market. Who cares. They make 70% of the profits whilst everyone else is scraping for bits of the business.
This is the same old FUD that you posted in another story. My guess is that you’re trying to create rumors to produce uncertainty in aapl stock. Good luck with that.

      1. FUD? I clearly stated that I was sick of the Android onslaught and wanted it to stop. How is that FUD? I want and desire for iPhone to be on top, not Android. Regardless of profit share, what’s most important is MINDSHARE of the public and of the developers… if consumers & developers continue to THINK that Android is on top, then that’s where future growth is going to go.

        1. Mac Bill, the sky is falling. You are sounding an alarm based on “every” one owning an Android. Not in my neighborhood! I agree with DogGoneToo. Let themselves bleed to death with the scraps they fight for. Iphone continues to push the technology forward while the others follow. Next stop icloud.

This is what we believe – technology alone is not enough. Faster, thinner, lighter, those are all good things; but when technology gets out of the way, everything becomes more delightful, even magical. That’s when you leap forward, that’s when you end up with something like this, iPad 2, iphone 4, ipod touch, imac _______________ (fill in the blank)

    3. Funny…I still see a lot more iPhones around than Androids. Of course, many Android handsets *look* like iPhones, so that might be my mistake…

The Android onslaught is on TV – please stop the commercials (except for the cute girl).

    4. I see far more iPhones than Android devices. It’s not even close. Maybe it’s because the iPhone users actually have their iPhones out and use them while the Android devices stay hidden in a pocket?

    5. This is what we believe – technology alone is not enough. Faster, thinner, lighter, those are all good things; but when technology gets out of the way, everything becomes more delightful, even magical. That’s when you leap forward, that’s when you end up with something like this, iPad 2, Iphone 4, ipod touch, imac, macbook pro ________________ fill in the blank. Next Stop icloud. Stop with your Chicken Little “the sky is falling routine.” I can not walk outside with out seeing someone with an apple device.

    6. Yes there’s a lot of different android devices to choose from so naturally that’s going to be the dominant phone. If you count just hardware and not the OS Apple is probably the most poplular phone maker today. Just compare the sales figures. Apple beats every phone maker out in profits.

  3. Jesus, have any of you had an android phone for more than a day? I LOVED my iphone.. and alway though of android as cheap and unfinished.. well I got sick of my little screen, and switched to an HTC inspire… all I can say is WOW! I love it, and it would take a lot for me to go back to the iphone..
dont knock it untill you try it, is all I am saying. Android 2.3.3 is a very finished, polished OS.. I love love love it.. I have had an iphone since iphone 1…

  4. Will you morons (yes you MacBill and Mygoodness), go annoy people on an Android forum please? As far as I can see this article doesn’t mention Android at all. The rest of us would prefer that every news item in this forum didn’t degenerate into an iPhone versus Android scrap. A scrap that is meaningless to most people here. By all means love your Androids, but do it some place else! Let us get on with our iPhones and other Apple products that we like.
