“Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2011) is set for June, and as well as announcements for iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion, we’re expecting the company to launch its cloud-based music streaming service dubbed iCloud,” Killian Bell reports for Touch Reviews.
“Further evidence to suggest that this service is looming comes from Amazon today, who has now ceased sales of Apple’s MobileMe service,” Bell reports. “Apple stopped selling MobileMe in its retail stores back in February and removed the product from its online search forms, sparking rumors that the service would be revamped and new features – such as iCloud – would be available when it relaunches. It also stopped users from signing up online, instead offering them a 60 day free trial, which could be to keep customers sweet while Apple makes the changes.”
Bell reports, “iCloud is expected to be a part of MobileMe, which currently offers a cloud service for email, contacts, calendars, and online storage.”

I have a feeling, after reading about the rumoured dressing-down of the Mobile Me launch team by His Steveness after the botched launch, that *this* launch will go very smoothly.
I had to re-up recently to keep my uploaded content available. I hope that Apple throws me a bonus for being a sucker since 2007.

I heard it was going to be named “iCottonBalls” until Apple was reminded of this definition-
“(cotton to) have a liking for : his rivals didn’t cotton to all the attention he was getting.”
And Apple was happy to charge me another year of our family pack for MobileMe last week. Doubt there will be no refund coming my way either.
Don’t forget that Apple gave away a couple of months’ MobileMe time when MM had a spot of bother not too long ago.
I can’t see any reason why Apple would want to upset their customers by not reimbursing any excess when iCloud appears.
In any event, I can’t see the point of slagging off a company from which you would like some return – perhaps I’m old-fashioned but until Apple say they will not reimburse you I’d keep quiet!
Not sure why many here believe that their Mobile Me accounts are not going to be absorbed into Apple’s revamped cloud effort. No one lost their account when Apple moved from .Mac to MobileMe. I think, instead, that you should expect a richer, improved service at no additional charge (at least for the remainder of your paid period). This is what I expect.

Anything else would be uncivilized.
I just don’t get how the average person will access content on a smartphone. Most of us have limited data plans. There is no way I’m going to access music that I could just have on my phone and pay $20 extra for the privilege.
It would be okay if access was cheaper and the cap was 5gb.
Apple sent me a notice that Mobile Me will renew in 30 days.
Guess that kinda blows that idea out of the water.
