Apple sued again over location data; lawsuit claims Apple intentionally intercepted personal info

“Apple is being sued again over the controversial data location file on its iPhone and iPad devices,” Jim Dalrymple reports for The Loop.

“Filed in the United States District Court for the District Of Puerto Rico, Lymaris M. Rivera Diaz is suing Apple, The Weather Channel and Pandora Media for intentionally intercepting personally identifying information,” Dalrymple reports. “The lawsuit contends that Apple captures the Unique Device ID and transmits that information, along with location data, to third-party advertisers.”

Dalrymple reports, “Apple is facing six different charges, including fraud, abuse, and unfair trade practices. The lawsuit is asking for monetary damages.”

  1. “The lawsuit contends that Apple captures the Unique Device ID and transmits that information, along with location data, to third-party advertisers.”

All of which are bullshite, meaning the case will be
(chant after me our usual mantra):

    THROWN OUT OF COURT!

    Paranoid TechTards
    out for cash
    yet again
    screwing up our court systems
    out of ignorance and greed
    the lawyers love it
    *yawn*
    (-_-) zzzzz

  2. I love this:

These people believe what the researchers found throroughly enough to file a lawsuit, yet those same researchers said they have never found any evidence that Apple collects any data.

The hypocrisy is astounding. Tort reform? Yes, please.

  3. Uh, show me the Wireshark packet trace….all the experts have pointed out that they have no evidence of the alleged private data being sent over a network….

  4. Are these lawsuits being instigated by Apple competitors or just money grubbing trolls?

Funny that so far, the biggest perpetrator (of making money directly, and benefiting, from collecting personal data) Google has gone untouched and slips under the lawsuit radar.

  5. Pfft. Whatever. We hear about so many of these suits every year that it’s easy to lose count. How many times have you heard of one of these suits being settled or tried? I’m blanking trying to remember the last one.

In short, it’s nothing to worry about, just another opportunistic lawsuit against Apple, and this is probably the last we’ll hear of it.
