“Apple retail employees were told this week that they may not request vacation days in late May, which could suggest Apple has something planned for the 10th anniversary of its retail stores,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.
“Retail employees were told this week via e-mail that they may not request days off between May 20 and May 22,” Hughes reports. “It was said that store managers are ‘very excited’ about those dates, but no other details are available.”
Hughes reports, “Gary Allen of ifoAppleStore.com said the most likely use for those days is a 10th anniversary event commemorating a decade of Apple’s brick-and-mortar retail stores.”

MacDailyNews Take: iCal screams: I give [Apple] two years before they’re turning out the lights on a very painful and expensive mistake. – David Goldstein, Channel Marketing Corp. President, May 21, 2001, on Apple’s fledgling retail store effort
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Lava_Head_UK” for the heads up.]
Don’t ya love iCal.
Haha, yeh MDN’s iCal must be full to bursting point!
funny funny funny..link to the article for ALMOST conan or colbert humor if you read his quotes like they would: “Apple’s problem is it still believes the way to grow is serving caviar in a world that seems pretty content with cheese and crackers. Rather than unveil a Velveeta Mac, Jobs thinks he can do a better job than experienced retailers at moving the beluga.” and “A good step would be to end the “think secret” approach that shrouds every new-product announcement.” “They should let the news leak out, to convince the world how exciting their stuff is. That’s how everyone else does it. Maybe it’s time Steve Jobs stopped thinking quite so differently.”
Yeah…listen up everybody. Get in line, toe the mark, punch the clock and don’t dare look up (you might realize if you do all you’ll see is the butts of hordes in front of you racing to their dreams.)
Should they have done like everybody else, they may not now be the second largest company.
“Think Alike”? Isn’t going to happen.
My, how time flies. I remember Goldstein’s remark and MDN’s take as if it were yesterday.
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years.
I have to say…reading tons of blogs and news stories, MDN gets it right on Apple more than any other source. They publish some articles that get a lot of criticism as being “obvious” or not news worthy. But, ANYTHING Mac related should be covered here…of all places. So, just making a point of saying MDN get it right more times than not…by a mile and I appreciate the info.
Me, too, Jo. Doesn’t seem like 10 years at all. Why, I was a little square back then – before I really filled out.
Can you say iPhone 5 on may 22?
Remember how those clowns were saying that the iPad was delayed to June?
May be they are releasing a mini iPhone-a cheaper version-for the third world where the prepaid usage is more common.
Brick and mortar stores? Aren’t most of them glass and metal?
Hate to be a wet fart, but it’s probably just the white iPhone 4.
“Yes, I’ll take fries with that, David Goldstein.”
May 21st! I guess the Apple Store’s were not the only thing to be born on that day! My son’s B-Day!
I may be wrong here, but I thought Apple opened it’s first stores in ’01.
Cut down on the weed, dude. Or, go back to remedial math class.

MDN: Whatever happened to Goldstein? More likely than not the jerk still has an overpaid job and, other than MDN’s attention, has never had to answer for his stupidity.
So just like McDonalds had this week, Dell is having a huge hiring festival on May 20-22. We will be hiring thousands of people to help serve our vastly growing and diverse market. Obviously Apple is worried that the rats will try to swim away from the sinking ship and towards Dell. Thus why they limit the vacation days. Poor fools.
