  1. iAd, by itself, is not going to be successful. Indeed, I do hope Apple will resolve its issues with Facebook and add other social media networks to add “sparkle” to its capabilities and opportunities. Furthermore, its recent acquisitions should make ad marketing “smarter”, interactive and more relevant with other (user info opt-in allowed) apps.

  2. OK. No offense to Apple, but advertising isn’t generally something people choose to spend time looking at. Yes, every once in a while a company creates a truly great or inspiring ad that is art in and of itself. But those types of ads are few and far between. Don’t see the point of this!

    1. D’accord. I watched the “1984” and “Think Different” ads for the quality of composition and execution, the “PC v Mac” ads for the humor, but that covers 25 years. I don’t see the point either; unless the goal is to merely show potential advertisers the market demographics available.

  3. Advertising is a cancer. I don’t know who wrote that iAd Gallery app blurb, but it betrays a shocking degree of cluelessness about advertising’s place in the scheme of things. Tag your favorite iAds? Give me a break!!!

    1. A cancer? I don’t think so. Maybe an inconvenience. But it gets me free or discounted stuff, so why shouldn’t I accept it in small doses? I pay for some things I really like, but if I can use something else for free, with ad-support, I’m all for that.

      1. Small doses??? Open your eyes, man. Everywhere you look, there’s a non-stop stream of advertising. Even at the gas pump, ads are blaring. Huge sports stadiums are now named after advertisers. It’s truly obscene, whether it bothers you or not.

    2. Anyone would hate inappropriately targeted advertisements. You have no way of learning about new products or services unless you and your friends and family talk about these same new products and services. Although ‘word of mouth’ is a strong form of ‘advertising’, it is incredibly slow to start a new company or product line or service.

Google is going a long way to give us well targeted ads based on our gmail content, our searches and our website visits. If I visit a restaurant site, I don’t want to know about Viagra or washing machines. I might be interested in shopping for new clothes to go there in or a new car to get there with style or a competing restaurant. Good ad placement is beneficial to us all.

  4. I like ads. I think they are a form of art. Telling a story in a few seconds, or catching people’s attention enough with a banner to make them look, read… or click. It takes talent.

  5. I suppose this app might be of interest if the iAds were any good. Since they can have mini games, video etc embedded it is possible that you might choose to view them. If not then it’s free so who cares, just don’t download it.

  6. Not outside the US, it seems.

Advertising is coming out our ears, true. But good marketing can be thoroughly entertaining. Just listen to “The Age Of Persuation” a CBC Radio Program / Podcast that highlights many great moments in advertising, including the Apple ads we all love.

Because Apple is so involved in iAd, I will probably check this gallery out, when available.

  7. Advertising = spending billions/resources/time to con others to spend billions/resources/time for mostly BS…trying to fill their empty selves. Want/need something? ask people or use yippy.com
    F*^k ads.
