“In a series of Tweets (via MacNews.de), CNET’s Brian Tong says he’s received word from a ‘reliable source’ that new iMacs will arrive in late April or early May,” Dennis Sellers reports for MacNews.
“The updated iMacs will doubtless feature dual and quad Sandy Bridge processors, as well as Thunderbolt technology. The lower end iMacs will probably sport 2.3GHz and 2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5s, while the high-end iMacs will tout 2.0GHz and 2.3 quad-core Intel Core i7s,” Sellers predicts. “The low end models will most likely sport integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with the main memory. The higher end models will likely come with an AMD Radeon HD 6490M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memory or an AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory.”
Sellers writes, “The revved iMacs will certainly sport Thunderbolt I/O technology… Hard drive capacities will, I predict, range from 500GB up to 1TB, with options to up that to 2TB. And, of course, there will be pricey SSD upgrade options… The iMac was given an edge-to-edge glass screen in October 2009 and that’s not expected to change.”

My credit card is out of my wallet, the two if us are going to camp out in front of my current iMac waiting for the Apple.com store to close then reopen.
Well by that time the money will have burned a hole in every pocket of every pant I own.
Must…not…spend…it….
Same… I have at least $2k ready to buy my new 27″ iMac.
Can’t wait!
Hooray for FireWire 2.0! Another sign that Apple can’t do anything right.
So you wish they were now using parallel 6.0 ports?
I believe Thunderbolt is Firewire compatible and a major leap forward in speed. The sooner Apple adopts it the better.
I’m sooooooo READY!
Hopefully Mac minis will be next after that..
I want drive bays for swappable 2.5″ HDs. Come on, user replaceable hard drives are the rage of the season. Get on with it, Apple!
It’s called a Mac Pro. It’s a tower and you can even swap drives! Ever heard of it? Get with it, Hagar!
Woo-hoo!!! Been holding off since 2008. With Sandy Bridge, quad core & Thunderbolt goodies… Can’t wait.
I don’t own a Mac, but I’m considering it. Can someone tell me what devices connect to the Thunderbolt interface? Is any manufacturer making any products that utilize the interface and speed it offers?
LaCie is saying they will have ThunderBolt 250Gb SSD, 500 Gb SSD and 1Tb 7200 RPM disk external drives available in Summer 2011
Seagate & Western Digital say they will be supporting ThunderBolt sometime in 2011.
A TB port is also a mini-display port. Any monitor that uses an MD connector will work.
Thank you iFan and ChrissyOne. I appreciatee feedback.
Looking forward to making some Apple hardware purchases later this year. My list is getting longer – so many things to buy, so little money…
“the high-end iMacs will tout 2.0GHz and 2.3 quad-core Intel Core i7s”
mistake much ?
I think only the very base level entry iMac will ship with Intel graphics and 500GB.
Just my hunch.
I sure would like an HDMI input on the new iMac. Can you do that with thunderbolt? Even at 1080p?
There’s a box you can buy now to input 720p via displayport. But not 1080p. Anyone know?
My 2002 G5 tower is ready to be retired. I’m all set to move to an i7-based iMac. April or May sounds mighty good to me.
Same for me, gotta say though, never thought I’d get almost nine solid years out of it. Was going to get another tower, TB has changed all that and the new iMac will smoke through most of the music stuff I do these days.

Moving from the 320M to the HD3000 was already a slight downgrade. Now this retard comes here and wants us to believe Apple will drop a DEDICATED GPU, the 4670 (that is already 4x better than the 320M, let alone the HD3000) for INTEGRATED INTEL CRAP? BWAAHAHAHAH!
In fact, he is just copying and pasting the processor and GPU specs from the MBPs! How idiotic would it be to go from the 5670 to the 6490M? THAT’S A DOWNGRADE, PEOPLE!
In fact, that is impossible, since the current iMacs use FRICKEN CPU PARTS (yes, even the GPUs!)
I recognize that I am behaving quite disturbingly, but seriously, is this guy being paid to write THIS?
