RUMOR: Apple’s iOS 5 to deeply integrate Siri’s artificial intelligence and assistance technology

“This past weekend, we broke the news that iOS 5, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, was likely being released in the fall,” MG Siegler reports for TechCrunch. “This would break the tradition of a summer release. And we also noted that instead of a separate event in the early spring, Apple was likely to use their WWDC event in June to talk about the new OS for the first time.”

“And if Apple intends to first show off iOS 5 at the event, they won’t release it then. Developers will need time to prepare their apps for the big changes in store,” Siegler reports. “The iPhone 5 will not be making an appearance at the event… It is expected to launch this fall, leading up to the all-important holiday shopping season… And it may prove to be worth the wait. TechCrunch contributor Steve Cheney (who nailed the timing of the Verizon iPhone last year), believes that a fall iPhone 5 launch makes LTE much more likely.”

Siegler reports, “A year ago, Apple bought Siri, a virtual personal assistant startup that had released a very cool iPhone app. The Siri team and technology are now said to be a big part of iOS 5. The use of Siri’s artificial intelligence and assistance technology is said to be deeply integrated into the OS for all the different services offered… This tech may also be opened to developers for use in third-party apps — though that information isn’t quite as concrete.”

  1. Now, consider Siri’s artificial intelligence and assistance technology and a BILLION DOLLAR SERVER FARM. Consider the server farm as the super charger (and one day the AI) for the apps. There will never be a real iKiller. It will take a decade or more for anyone to establish the foundation to challenge Apple!

This game is over … Apple won!

        1. Lol ok that makes a lot more sense. For a moment I thought you were making a reference to one of those Japanese card games like Yu-Gi-Oh: Microsoft played Kin but it died upon entering play; Apple played Steve Jobs and it won the game.

  2. Ah yes, more cloud vaporware rubbish. It’s truly telling that every leaked “rumor” these days touts the wonders of Apple’s forthcoming cloud initiative, and yet here you drones sit without a single cloud up their in the sky with your pies. Meanwhile the competition continues to fortify their already entrenched positions.

Apple obviously realizes how far behind they are in the future of computing I obviously realize it. What’s holding the rest of you back?

    1. “how far behind they are in the future of computing”
      LOL

The future of computing is in iPads, post PC era.
I think, Apple has a small head start…

The current “cloud” is only storage.

      1. And will remain so. Back in the day “cloud computing” was known as “thin client computing”. It was wired, not wireless (the cloud), but it didn’t catch on. More than enough power was available on the desktops of the day to do most tasks. Off site data storage is a good thing. Cloud-based executable applications are just silly. They will remain so until the cloud is ubiquitous, free, constant and not under government control. None of these is true today or likely to be for any foreseeable tomorrow.

    2. Well, Apple does have MobileMe which is a cloud service. So Apple DOES have a cloud service. Apple is also ready to flip the switch on their massive facility and then their cloud service may expand like the iTunes/Appstore. Apple was behind, far behind when they arrived with the iPod, iPhone, iPad but look what happened.

Apple knows what it is doing, proof is in the facts and the facts are out there. Even trolls can realize that. That’s why you are left with snippy comments.

      1. Apple has had a ‘cloud service’ since the WebDAV enabled iDisk was introduced in 2000. Everyone else is catching up. Witness Amazon going all wiggly over their new music streaming ‘cloud service’. I’ve been doing exactly that from my iDisk Public folder for well over a DECADE!

Oh, the tech ignorance of the world…

  3. @News Flash: Ok, let’s play history with this comment- we’ll change your comment ever so slightly…

“Ah yes, more [MP3 MUSIC PLAYER/SMARTPHONE/MOBILE PAD] vaporware rubbish. Sound familiar to anyone?

  4. I continue to warn anyone reading the buzz words “Artificial Intelligence” that there is as yet NO SUCH THING. AI was predicted to arrive well over a decade ago: No show! Pure vaporware. Nothing worth Turing Testing.

All we actually have these days is increasingly more capable ‘assistance’ software. Actually ‘intelligent’ software is nowhere in sight. Twisting around semantics does not equal actual technology. Sorry Kurzweil!
