Apple expands U.S. iPad 2 retail sales to 500 Radio Shack locations on Tuesday

“Starting Tuesday, some of the most heavily trafficked RadioShack stores in the U.S. will begin selling the iPad 2, as Apple continues to expand the retail availability of its hot-selling touchscreen tablet,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.

“AppleInsider has confirmed that the iPad 2 will be available at 500 RadioShack stores Tuesday,” Hughes reports. “A corporate memo scarce on details only reveals that the chosen stores have already been informed they will receive the device for sale.”

Hughes reports, “People familiar with the matter told AppleInsider that the deal to sell the iPad 2 at RadioShack was only finalized within the last few days.”

    1. Thanks for causing me to go learn about an interesting sounding winery in my state and equine anatomy!

If these place names actually exist, please tell me. At this point I’m working under the principle that “if it’s not on the Internet, it doesn’t exist”!-)

    1. I must say that I was shocked when I went into our local RS to get an obscure battery last week and was not asked the usual barrage of inane questions, was able to slide my debit card and enter my PIN all by myself and was able to take my purchase without a bag! Not that I’d expect them to be getting any iPads here in Dank Wattle, WA.

  1. So….. If they have so many “extra” iPads to stock stores, why have they not expedited the iPad2 backorders? Is this to suggest that people will be able to pick one up weeks before those of us who ordered from the online Apple Store the first weekend?

  2. The iPad 2 Locator at http://www.ipad2locator.com/ allows you to search both Target and Radio Shack locations to see if they have the iPad 2 in stock. You can see real time Target inventory broken down by model, and it will show only the Radio Shack locations confirmed to have inventory tomorrow morning.

People are still lining up at Apple stores at 4AM, but it’s not hard to find an iPad 2 elsewhere if you know where to look.
