“Apple may release a new line of iMac all-in-one desktop computers by the end of April or the first week of May with Sandy Bridge processors and the new high-speed Thunderbolt port, but no major cosmetic changes, according to a new rumor,” Slash Lane reports for AppleInsider.
“Brian Tong of CNet reported the rumor Tuesday on his Twitter account. Citing anonymous sources, he said that the new iMacs will be ‘en route by ocean’ to the U.S. around the start of May, and the machines will be upgraded with Intel’s latest-generation Sandy Bridge processors,” Lane reports. “‘We’ll see if this pans out, but I’m highly confident in my source,’ Tong wrote.”

Oh yeah.
I’m ready.
Me too.
Can’t wait for those glossy screened masterpieces.
I hope this is true, I’ve been ready to update my iMac for quite a while.
It’s likely that iMacs will get updates before “back to school” time, and it’s likely that any new iMacs will have what the new MacBooks have. So this is as sure a “rumor” as any. 🙂
Great. I just hope they improve the quality of the sub-27″ displays. Right now the 21″ is noticeably less bright and has less accurate colors than the 27″. It doesn’t really make sense to have such a low quality display built in to what it is otherwise a high end computer.
The most humble iMac glossy display will blow away any iMac that came before it in terms of screen brightness and clarity. The 27″ display may be even brighter, but this doesn’t make the 21″ model “low quality”. Some people see a glass that’s half full, some see it half empty. What to do?
One word “eBay”
damn it!! I just bought an iMac last month. You think I can return it?
Sorry, see above.
In the future, refer to this helpful tool before any Mac purchase…

funny, I had used that site in regards to my purchase but the status was NOT don’t buy. At the time, they weren’t betting on the Sandy Bridge and/or Thunderbolt adoption until later this year, and the Thunderbolt was still only a maybe/quite possibly 2012. Anyway, doesn’t really matter now. I still love my iMac. I had been hanging on to my G4 desktop as long as I could.
I’m running a 4 year old iMac 24″ that I’m ready to replace. I’d been holding out for eSATA, but Thunderbolt will do just fine. =)
You “just bought” an iMac a month ago? And it’s at least another month before this RUMOR says these new ones will be released? Maybe Apple won’t release them until WWDC in June, or with Mac OS X Lion…
The only certainty is that new iMacs will be released… eventually. So, don’t worry, be happy… 🙂
My 5 year old Core-Duo is ready to move on to the kids…
I had already known this would be an expensive year.
1 new iPad 2: $829 this month
1 new iMac 27″: $2000 minimum in next two months.
Possibly new iPhone 5: $300ish by mid summer.
I refuse to look at the new MacBook pro right now… Mine is 9 months young still.
And that’s just my house…
I know apple is making almost as much off my mom this year..
Sandybridge
awwww… yawn…. like…. so….
Like thats gonna help my already superfast and beautiful macbook pro be any faster.
Intel, bring out some shit that wows us. Thunderbolt? now thats a different story..
Gee, wouldn’t it be nice if we could buy a Thunderbolt HDD before summer?
Good! I always wait and buy mine when the free iPod with Mac purchase starts in June to Sept.
Yes, very true. If I kept holding out for the new NEW update I’d never buy, would I? It’s the Thunderbolt that really kicks me.
These consequences may well be far more most likely to happen if you are in excess of 60, if you take on an oral steroid medicine, or if you have had a kidney, center, or lung transplant. Order Avelox medication.
I expect it’ll be based on Intel’s Z68 chipset that will be available for the rest of the world in a week or two: http://blog.saers.com/archives/2011/04/30/intel-z68-chipset-for-the-imac-thatll-be-released-tuesday-may-3rd/
