“Apple will hold its much-anticipated event on March 2, where the tech giant seems poised to unveil a new version of its hugely successful iPad, according to multiple sources,” Kara Swisher reports for AllThingsD.
“Analysts expect the iPad 2 to be thinner than its predecessor and feature an improved display, as well as front-facing camera and Facetime video chat support,” Swisher reports. “And some reports suggest it will be powered by one of Qualcomm’s multimode chips and will run on both GSM and CDMA-based networks around the world.”
Swisher reports, “The venue [for the special event] is likely to be the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts [in San Francisco].”

No, no, no, front AND rear facing cameras. Facetime utilizes two cameras very well. Why wouldn’t they go with the rear one?
Have you actually really thought about how awkward it would be to to try to use something the size of an iPad as a camera? It is completely ridiculous.
Besides, as Steve Jobs has said, anyone with a tablet is going to also have a smartphone. This was said in reference to suggestions that Apple make a smaller screen iteration of the iPad, but the same logic applies here.
A rear facing camera on an iPad would be one of those adding a spec just to look good on paper, and that is not Apple’s M.O.
But then, having that big screen to view and edit photos would be fantastic if it had the capability. You only think it would be awkward because you’ve never owned a 4×5 view camera.
A picture-taking camera would also introduce the industrial espionage problem that has been discussed before with respect to the iPad.
Yeah, because spies would never think to just turn the thing around.

I do not expect to see a rear-facing camera, as there is little reason to have one. The iphone has both to support facetime and picture-taking; Facetime makes use of both since it is already there; it’s hardly a necessity for the few see-what-I-am-seeing opportunities.
Aside from the addition of a camera and more RAM, I am not expecting much more new.
Have you seen any augmented reality apps, like the ones that translate signs in real time? Is that a little reason?
The iPad will have 2 cameras. There’s no good reason *not* to.
Agreed. They already have the two phone system working on the iPhone. The question is will they put a flash on the rear one?

I for one don’t care about a rear-facing camera on something as big as an iPad. But front-facing? Absolutely. I do want higher res than than the current 1024×768 – something like true 720p to match the HD downloads. And yes, support for both GSM and CDMA will make it easier to switch carriers (competition is better than lock-in) and will be a boon for travelers.
For the user-facing camera (assuming this report is correct), if Apple is conscious about userability as usual, they will NOT put it “dead center” opposite the Home Button. Instead, it will be placed at (or closer to) one of the top corners (probably the right one). If it was centered along any edge, the user’s hand may block the camera when holding the iPad horizontally (the wide bezel is meant to serve as the iPad’s “handles”). At the corner, it is much less likely to be blocked no matter how the iPad is held.
I don’t care how many cameras it has as long as it’s $200 or less on a 6 month, $25 per month, unlimited data contract.

Really I’m not to excited about this. I mean a new camera a better display big whoop I’ve already seen this on the iPhone 4. Obviously I’m still going to sell my old iPad and get a new one but I want something different. That’s what I’m holding out for is something new and unexpected but I fear I will be disappointed.
