“Three weeks into a medical leave he took ‘to focus on my health,’ Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs is staying closely involved in the company’s strategic decisions and product development, according to people familiar with the matter,” Yukari Iwatani Kane reports for The Wall Street Journal. “The 55-year-old Mr. Jobs, whose ailment hasn’t been disclosed, has been taking business meetings at home and on the phone, these people said.”
“He also has been seen on Apple’s Cupertino, Calif., campus and in public in Palo Alto, Calif., with a company executive, said people familiar with the matter,” Kane reports. “Among products he is continuing to work on are the next version of the iPad tablet computer, expected out in the next couple of months, and a new iPhone, expected to be released this summer, said two of these people.”
Kane reports, “Apple, meanwhile, day-to-day operations continue nearly unchanged under Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook, said people inside the company and at its business partners.”

Of course… That’s why he made it clear that he retains the “CEO” title during his leave. Last time (when he had an organ transplant operation), he made Tim Cook acting CEO during his absence. As I said in a different topic, Steve Jobs should take a few months off from day-to-day (“show up at the office”) work once per year, to make sure he stays healthy. Maybe that’s going to be the plan going forward; the Jan-Mar quarter is probably the ideal time of year.
Geez, the poor guy only make $1 a year. Why come in at all?
I wonder if he will get sick pay? Maybe that’s more than his current salary of $0.002 a day…
Get well soon Steve!
I wonder if H & R Block does his taxes. I would love to be able to place $1.00 in the salary column.
If only there were a technology that would allow him to have face to face meetings remotely.
Spark and Macro..
You guys are funny! 🙂
Gosh, one dollar a year and now talk of his house “being razed?” Poor guy!
Steve,
Take care, get well, and we’ll look forward to having you back when you’re ready. Steve Jobs 4.0
Calling in sick again. How many times does he think we’re gonna fall for that excuse? Slacker!
😉
Cruise control is the name of the game, nobody is catching up so a little refueling is in order, cuz we’re in it for the longrun!
I trust Apple employees will not got distracted by SJ’s health issue.
Hey thanks apple for sharing this information, and we glad to read this article.

Nice new design, MDN!!!
To be honest, I wish that he would think about stepping down. He saved Apple and in many ways he is the heart and soul, but we need to see if the child can stand on its own without the father. I think that it can. I hope so.
The thing is – you can time the announcement of a retirement (just like they timed the announcement of his medical leave), but you can’t time the announcement of a death or sudden incapacitation.
Apple’s a great company and I am EVER SO grateful to SJ. But I want to think that it can be just as awesome on the path that he set it on.
Get well soon, Steve.
First, reports of Steve Jobs at a hospital rumor. Apple does controlled leak to Kane as always, reports of Steve working at home to keep everyone at ease…nice move Apple! All is well again!
