How the heck will Apple ever catch up to demand?
Indicative of the wide market for the iPhone. Great as an investor, but the Apple Fanboy Snob in me says “Walmart? Best way to devalue one of the best pieces of technology on the Planet!”
I just got a mental picture of a 300 lb. plus person of indeterminate sex sitting down on a bench inside WalMart with an iPhone in the back pocket of their denim coveralls.
The horror!
Did they just announce this? Or just find this out…
Cause I have the flyer from walmart they were handing out in every bag last week…
Buy anything at walmart and they shove a flyer in the bag telling you that you can buy one starting feb 10th at 6am.
At least at my store they have had the flyers for at least a week.
I don’t get the bashing of walmart…
It’s apple, it’s not walmarts cheap knockoff of apple.
If walmart is cheaper, I’ll go to walmart.
Pepsi products, $1 for a 2 liter right now at walmart. Safeway across the street, $1.89 for same 2liter from the same bottling plant… Which would you buy?
Granted walmart has their own cheap brands, but they do sell name brand products. And almost always cheaper than the competition.
But I do admit, you do see some “interesting” people inside a walmart.
as strange as it may seem on the surface, apple going to wallmart is right in line with steve jobs’ ideals. their slogan is “live better”, or something like that, and that’s just what the iPhone helps people do.
when your husband is an alcoholic, you can’t keep your blood sugar down, your kids are knocked up and on drugs, I think having even just one thing, that you can rely on and gives you piece of mind, can make a big difference.
The deludedly pompous love to dump on Walmart while feeling that they’re so much more discerning, cultured & enlightened by shopping at Target etc. What a joke. Practically the same inventory w/ the only variation being off-brand selections.
LOL..they may end up eating they’re pridefulness eventually if this economy continues to tank..
@cwfrederick:
Those maladies which you mention: alcoholism, teen drug use & pregnancy, diabetes are not limited to the lower classes–or ‘walmarters’. The trash poor are just easier for you to pick on because they wear it in the wide open. The affluent are just as much a participant–just better at hiding & getting better lawyers..
@ jillion
when talking about potential then yes, but in actuality the maladies I mentioned disproportionally afflict an underclass in our society that is not fully recognized. avoiding patterns in society will not help to correct them. one of the deficits that comes with the American spirit of individualism (of which I am a huge fan) is that people are allowed to fall into destructive patterns. there is a reason why there is a disproportionate amount of criminals in the US vs other developed countries. the government’s solution to the problem is to give them more money and refer to it as ‘social welfare’, when in actuality it serves primarily to enable, not ennoble. I think it is only when the problem is recognized, and when creative solutions are supported over the easy ‘solutions’, that we will see change. in my opinion the only things that will work will be things that restore people’s dignity, and give them the self respect and confidence to seek and expect better things.
