New AT&T ad slams Verizon: Only AT&T’s network lets your iPhone talk and surf at the same time

AT&T has debuted a new television ad for Apple’s revolutionary iPhone 4 on U.S. broadcast and cable networks that takes on one of Verizon’s biggest liabilities, the inability to talk and surf at the same time on their network.

In the ad, a man is working late in his office when he receives a call from his wife. When she asks about the plans for their anniversary that night, a harried look crosses his face as he realizes he has forgotten the big night. Mid-call, he is able to pull up the browser of his iPhone and search for restaurants. Playing it cool, he talks up the night’s plans while making the reservations from his phone.

The voiceover states, “Only AT&T’s network lets your iPhone talk and surf at the same time.”

MacDailyNews Take: The war for U.S. iPhone 4 users has begun and, no matter what the outcome, the winner is Apple!

  1. There are two sides to every story:

For me, At&T is the clear winner as I live in an area with good reception.. So I can make calls, surf faster and get the benefit of simultaneous voice and data..

For others, in SF or NY, well obviously Verizon is probably the better choice..

People keep forgetting that service varies from city to city, state to state..

  2. This will all be a moot point when the Verizon iPhone serves as it’s own hotspot for face time while allowing you to surf the internet. Oh yeah, you better believe that son of a sandwich maker does still multitask. Win win Apple!

  3. If I had a choice right now between AT&T & Verizon given their current offerings, I’d give Verizon the edge since they give an unlimited plan (outside of the 5% data hogs).. AT&T doesn’t offer such a service to new customers. You can’t currently get an unlimited data plan from AT&T. THAT SUCKS BAD!

Please keep in mind, if Verizon drops their unlimited data plan for iPhone, I change my opinion on all of this in it’s entirety. At that point, it’s all about which phone service has the best coverage in the areas where you use it. Cell phone service providers are all dumb data pipes and they need to recognize that fact.

We need reliable service, unlimited data plans and coverage where we plan to use our iPhones for a reasonable price.

    ATT iP4: Hey, sending you… [!@#$]

ATT iP4: I was saying I am going to send you the new spreadsheet…

ATT iP4: Called again to tell you I sent you the spreadsheet and graph.

VZ iP4: I got it and saw it in between your dropped calls. I think, like ur calls, the graph is a mess.

  4. Thank God I’m not on Verizon. How else will I be able to call a dirty chatline, talk to Ms. Marples (the prim schoolmistress) on the other end of the line and call up an image of her on Safari over the Internet; all the while manipulating my iPhone one handed.

Thank you AT&T for allowing me to multitasking to porn. How will I ever live without you?

  5. I’ve been on AT&T since I switched from Sprint to get iPhone 1.

    Here’s the deal…

I have great coverage -> Win
VZ customers now have great coverage with iPhone -> Win
Any AT&T folks that switch to VZ means shorter lines for me and iPhone 5 -> Win
VZ folks in June when iPhone 5 released -> Fail

Next Subject…all this 4G talk is mostly nonsense from my perspective. AT&T’s current network can go plenty fast at 3.5G which they are now calling 4G. 7Mbps…really…do you need something faster than that…really?

So, LTE will be faster…so what…at some point you reach diminishing returns; I personally peg that at around 3Mbps.

Unless you live in NYC or SanFran…there’s nothing to see here…IMO…

  6. The battle of the major U.S. carriers will probably quadruple the iPhone 4 advertisements over the next few months. But, as MDN states, it doesn’t matter if people go to AT&T or Verizon. Apple wins either way!

And just wait until the iPad2 and iPhone5!

  7. What is wrong with MDN? Ican only see one article listed in the left column for days now. I’m so frigging frustrated with their lame sevice. If only there were a reliable alternative. I’d trash this app and never look back. Shame on you MDN! Shame on YOU!
