RUMOR: Steve Jobs to join News Corp.‘s Murdoch on-stage to unveil iPad-only ‘The Daily’ on Jan. 19

invisibleSHIELD case for iPad“Rupert Murdoch will unveil News Corp.’s much-anticipated iPad newspaper onstage this month with Apple chief executive Steve Jobs,” Michael Calderone and Joe Pompeo report for Cutline. “The two media moguls will appear together at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, according to a source familiar with preparations for the event. The launch date is expected to be Jan. 19, but that may change.”

Calderone and Pompeo report, “Known as The Daily, Murdoch’s iPad publication has been the talk of the media world over the past couple months, and the News Corp. chief has even dubbed it his ‘No. 1 most exciting project.'”

“Murdoch is reportedly willing to sink $30 million into the project,” Calderone and Pompeo report. “The cash infusion has spurred The Daily into a high-profile hiring spree over the past couple of months. So far, Angelo and his team have brought in a number of top-notch journalists from media outlets such as the New Yorker, the Daily Beast, Forbes, AOL and Politico. But while news of the editorial hires has steadily leaked out, The Daily’s brass have remained tight-lipped about the launch.”

  1. “The two media moguls will appear together …”

Steve Jobs is now a media mogul?

And I doubt Jobs will share the stage with Murdoch.
No matter what one’s politics, Murdoch just isn’t an inspiring figure.

  2. Don’t count it out yet, Murdoch might br raking the conservative, child targeting, conservatards for cash, yet his company can just as easily turn out products like the Star Wars saga, the Simpsons, or Glee!
I see him as more of a uncannily good business man. Unfortunately, the republitards stirred up the worst army of looney tunes teabaggers the world has seen in a long time.

Next thing you know Sarah Palindrome has sent a bullet through the brain of a 9 year old girl…

  3. @dijonaise
You made one cogent statement in your screed:
“I see him as more of a uncannily good business man.”

The reality is that it doesn’t matter whether it is Murdoch or Ted Turner launching The Daily. The question is will it provide a successful model for subscription publications. If you are more than just small-minded, you will be hoping for it’s success, not failure.

  4. Yes… thank “god”.

That’s the ticket, alright! Nailed it in one there. Couldn’t agree with you “more”.

I wish “god” could write every article in the paper… that would quiet the “god”-less “progressives”!

I am going to cry now.

  5. This has got to be some kind of sick joke — and I’m not laughing.

Steve should not share a planet, let alone a stage with this ruthless anti-competitive monopolist monster. To give this guy the freedom to buy up and shut down all media that dares to exist alongside his empire will eventually mean that the only news and TV that we will see is Fox, Fox and more freakin’ Fox. DON’T DO IT!

P.S His UK News Of The World title is likely about to be exposed as a serial hacker into celebrities’ mobiles, trying to dig up dirt. You have been warned.

  6. I hope that this is a sick joke. I hold both Apple and Steve Jobs in great regard. . I have absolutely no faith in anything Rupart Murdock says or does. He is a snake oil salesman, at best. I will NEVER buy or use anything that Mursock has anything to do with.
