“Mark your calendars, media nerds. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 is the day it all changes. Maybe,” Jeff Bercovici blogs for Forbes,
“That’s the planned launch date for The Daily, the iPad-only publication News Corp. has been feverishly developing,” Bercovici reports. “The company has yet to say boo about it, and a spokesman declined to comment when I asked him about the launch date, which comes via a News Corp. insider.”
Bercovici reports, “The debut can’t come soon enough for The Daily’s staffers, who for weeks have been engaged in full-scale dry runs, cranking out dummy issues for what I’ve been told is a distribution list of 1,000 privileged readers.”

The only way I’d buy it is if it had an extensive expose’ on how Murdoch bribed then Speaker Gingrich with an overpaid book deal to expedite his US citizenship so NewzCrap could buy the then MetroMedia TV stations and flip their affiliation to Fox TV.
No, it hasn’t dropped into the memory hole.
Since this is the brain child of the Global Chief Slime Officer himself…what if nobody comes and signs up?? Will he get the message that the rest of the world, save a few automatons that actually work for him, think his vitriol, right-wing hate speech is too lame for publication??
One can certainly hope.
I’ll check it out but have become very leery of Murdoch.
Notice what he’s done to the WSJ. The paper never used to have headlines in the form of a question unless it was one of the lighthearted side stories. Now they’re used in tabloid style teaser heads. A lot of trite non-business related stories. The clever intelligence has been greatly reduced. Opinions used to be reserved for the op-ed page, news stories strictly objective. Not any more.
Can’t wait – I’ll be signing up on the first day!
No, thank you. I still have too many brain cells left to be interested.
To announce the verizon iPhone.
@ auramac,
Half a dozen ain’t nothin’ to brag about.
Murdock and MDN. A pair made in heaven.
If it’s from Murdoch it’s bound to be propaganda.
@more fake news
Hey, shat-for-brains, why don’t you take the Left’s mantra “no free speech” and shut the f**k up.
You libs’ll shoot reps voting against your commie-dem party leader, and yet you call yourselves liberal.
Fox & Murdock are the ones to watch and read for the truth of what’s going on in the USS of A. Then again, you could watch CNN or MSNBC and pull the blanket further over your head.
SB Murdoch – Scottish y’know. Fox hunting for the masses.
Murdoch is a classic media mogul. He knows how to bring in the viewership. In the case of Fox News, he correctly identified that there wasn’t a single major media outlet that was not otherwise left-leaning while 80% of the country is center/right. Murdoch himself is a lefty (voting for Gore should be enough to establish his bona fides) but he was also shrewd enough to recognize that money was being left on the table.
Not only did he establish a huge money-making machine in Fox News but he did it without really having to venture too much into conservative-land. Fox News leans neither right nor left but goes with the political “He said/she said” type of news approach. Half the time any given viewer of any political persuasion can be upset with Fox News coverage given that half the time they use the liberal talking points and half the time the conservative talking points.
I’m still waiting for a right-wing version of NBC or CNN to start up. Like FNC, this too will generate a huge audience (since there isn’t a single conservative news outlet on the air to this day and thus, a huge pent up demand).
As for his iPad app, meh. I can get my news from the web without having to buy anything.
You mean there is news other than at MDN, dealmac.com, Macrumors, Macsurfer, MacNN, and Macosxhints?
Wow, I really need to get out. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”cool smile” style=”border:0;” />
You ASSUME that because I think Rupert Murdoch has done great harm to our nation’s media & political discourse that I must be a , drumroll please , Liberal.
FYI I am not. Further, nothing is wrong with liberal thought or politics. Just as the display inn your computer probably displays more than a monochrome pallette, a diverse nation of over 300 million citizens has more than 2 viewpoints of how things should be.
Next, as an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army that was entrusted with a Top Secret Clearance and work at some of the highest levels of our national security (DoD EUCOM & 18th Airborne Corps), my love for America, our Constitution and it’s people should be beyond question.
back@ya
Military’s full of closeted ga-‘ er, liberals. Where ya’ think Obamalama gets his troops for photo-ops!?!
“Liberalism is a Mental Disorder” to quote a savage book title!
Stalin loved Russia! Hitler Germany! Mussolini trains – er, Italy. Liberal whack-a-moles like you think the “of-the/by-the” clause means a minority has a right to dictate communism under the nom-de-plume of socialism – better known to Southern Christian dummies as Populism – but it ain’t so.
Not until you have the votes to make it an Amendment!
Thank you for your service but that argument as proof of political stripe is no argument. Your ignorant rant on Fox shows where you got your talking points.
Therefore you am!
@Handsome Smitty
Your post speaks for itself and for the work of Rupert Murdoch.
@m159
Wow, that’s as raptrous as that stuff Loughner posted.
I was 16 years ahead of Glenn Beck! That guy stole my schtick. Only, who listens to what the bartender has to say!?!
“Only, who listens to what the bartender has to say!?!”
No one, if he’s as big a psychotic moron as you.
In addition to all other considerations, the price under consideration is 99 cents a week, which is more than I would be willing to pay for a publication.
A dollar a week is a steal if, say, it has all the bells and whistles of a real paper daily. News, sports, entertainment, business – and don’t forget the comics!
I get that online now for free or very inexpensively.
Freedom of speech also gives us the freedom to accept or reject what we hear, based on it’s merits. So, Handsome Smitty, no one is really hearing you here.
What’d you say?
There will be the distinct convenience factor of having all the items you want collected in a slick package (hopefully with Apple’s help) that saves you time hunting around. The term discoverability comes to mind.
