“Have you been holding out on iPhone 4 until Apple gets around to releasing the white version?” Anders Bylund asks for The Motley Fool. “You’re in luck — the official word is that the model hasn’t been canceled after all. Yay!”
“Apple stores nationwide are getting some new signage installed right about now, and the fine print on the iPhone posters includes the following tidbit: ‘The white iPhone 4 will be available spring 2011,'” Bylund reports. “So there you have it, straight from the black turtleneck.”
Bylund reports, “But is it even worth the trouble for Apple to push this item through to store shelves? I’m not so sure. ‘Spring 2011’ is potentially just a few weeks away from the expected release of the iPhone 5, iPhone 4G, or whatever the next version will be called.”

MacDailyNews Take: This white unicorn, er, iPhone 4, is rare pooch-screwage by Apple. Until we’re told otherwise, we blame Papermaster.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “JES42” for the heads up.]
lol regarding the MDN take.. damn you Papermaster!
He probably gets nightmares about antennas.
Yeah, right. Available Spring, my Mac!
Well, I should be eligible for an upgrade of my black iP4 by Summer 2011… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
The white iPhone is as legendary as the white unicorn you shouldn’t be leapfrogging over. Now why blame Papermaster for the fiasco – how anyone can discern the difference in coloration between the whiteness of the home button and the rest of the iPhone’s body is beyond me.
Maybe SJ has 40/20 vision whereas the rest of us mortals make do with 20/20.
Anders is an Apple-hater. He’s the idiot that posted a MotleyFool article that Apple would be the Worst Stock to Own in 2010.
I look forward to buying my mythical white iPhone with some mythical green cash.
Never play leapfrog with a unicorn.
Right, but that means that the iPhone 4 will then become the $99 phone, and having the white one is still beneficial in that case.
Might as well wait for iPhone 5.
@ LateRegistrant
I’ll buy mine at T-Mobile this coming spring.
How much do you think Verizon paid for exclusive rights to that sucker?
Actually, it’s kind of an “unintentionally” smart move. I mean, just as sales of iPhone 4 start to taper off a bit in March or April, because even the semi-knowledgeable customers know that new iPhones will arrive in June or July, here comes the coveted (for some strange reason I don’t understand) WHITE iPhone. And enough “white iPhone holdouts” and the less-knowledgeable customers (first timers) will get excited and buy one to keep iPhone 4 sales strong until iPhone 5 arrives.
Personally, I think the black iPhone 4 is much better looking, with its screen blending into the front face (instead of being a stark rectangle), and the hole for the user-facing camera less visible as an off-center dot. When the Intel MacBook first came out, the black model was the “special edition” and the white one was “common.” And the black (with red click-wheel) iPod was the special “U2” edition, compared to the “boring” white model. I guess white is new black…
And it comes with Duke Nukem Forever pre-installed !
I dreamed I bought that mythical phone with my own mythical cash.
Works beautifully. Why wait?…
Until we’re told otherwise, we blame Papermaster.

well that’s not very logical considering he was fired in August and (according to the article) wasn’t involved in the decision making process for months preceding his departure..
It’s now December, kind of ridiculous to pass it off on one guy who hasn’t been around for months.
It’s funny it can be so gars to make something White. It’s almost racist.
