Android activations level since August as specter of Verizon iPhone looms

MacDailyNews Note: For comparison, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced in mid-October that Apple was activating 275,000 iOS devices per day, peaking at 300,000 on some days.

Weintraub reports, “That isn’t to say Google won’t announce another milestone in the coming days and weeks. But, even if they announce 250,000 next week, that still shows that growth is decelerating.”

MacDailyNews Take: No mystery here. In fact, we called it. In June. The market for fake iPhones began to freeze as soon as credible reports of the Verizon iPhone began to appear. Informed smartphone buyers are waiting for the real thing rather than settle for an pale imitation. It’s that simple.

    The Google cookie on many of Google’s applications expires in 2038. Why do they need a persistent cookie with a unique ID number for each user? Who knows. What we do know is that Matt Cutts, an engineer at Google, once worked for the NSA.

    Curious how you’d explain the European market then.. iPhone is on multiple carriers,there are no two for one Android offers ad it was just announced last week that Android is about to surpass iOs..

    Understood, my point being is if only being available on one carrier is what’s holding iPhone back in the US, then what’s the excuse in the European market where it’s available on multiple carriers.

  4. The growth is decelerating since the vacuum left by Windows Mobile and Symbian is already filled. All big mobile manufactories interested in a new mobile operating system have already changed to Android, so new market potential is limited from now.
    Microsoft will take millions of marketing dollars to fight back with Windows Phone 7 and Nokia will stay with Symbian as long as it takes.
    The Verizon iphone will only be the icing on the cake and wont stopp the acceleration they will even bring the turn arround in Androids success story. Companies like Motorola will face real trouble in Q1/11, because their most important product Droid on Verizon will collapse to half of their present market share.

    2. Remove all Google Cookies as often as you can be bothered.

  6. My son bought a HTC Aria and after playing with a bit I’ve come to the conclusion that the Android system is the bastard child of Microsoft and Blackberry. It is definitely NOT polished or stable like iOS

  7. Having dinner and overheard a group of people in their 50’s – 60’s talking about their Android phones. You hear “apps” “movies” “google map” “touch screen interface” and so on. The pathetic part was how they were giving Google all the credit for inventing all this stuff for the phone. One idiot said the iPhone works like an android but it’s not as good since it’s not open! Haha another not open therefore not many apps will be available soon like Android. Because it’s open and iPhone is not! Hahahaha the campaign actually works for non techie people!

  8. Verizon. Getting iPhone any day now since 2007.

    I’d like to see what will happen here at MDN if 2011 comes and goes without iPhone on Verizon.

    There were no verifiable reports of Apple getting out of the 5-year exclusivity agreement with AT&T. It seems that a lot of Verizon fans in the MDN crowd prefer to ignore the 5-year agreement.
