Free on my 20″ iMac
Free on my 15″ Dell laptop
$30 on my 3″ iPhone
I guess size DOES matter
I considered buying SlingPlayer units for my HDTV sets in my house and to stream to our iPads. Because they did not offer a unit with HDTV cable and were using the lower quality 5 wires, I passed for now. To bad. They were looking good in general. However, I and my 60″ Sony WEGA 60 HDTV wanted more. I spent more and went TIVO units, a Mac mini and will be streaming to the iPads as soon as I get a copy of the Toast 10 software.
@TowerTone
It’s free on your 15″ Dell because they can’t justify charging you money for the use of software on hardware that will clap out in 6 months.
After you spend almost $300 on the SlingBox you have to go out and spend another $30 for the app, I think that is stupid
Already does this over WiFi & 3G, plus it records & can be remotely programmed.
I have a perfectly working Slingbox AV…but I cannot use it with my iPad because they say so.
Why would I replace something that is working perfectly fine? And if I did replace it, what would I do with it?
grrrr.
Idiot marketers?
Or smart businessmen?
I am with towertone on this; it works perfectly fine on our MBPros, our netbooks and all our desktops around the world…FOR FREE.
MW= ‘issue’, as in I have an issue with their alleged strategy
I have already purchased Slingplayer Mobile for my iPhone but I have to purchase it again for the iPad?
Sling charged $30 for the mobile app on Blackberry, WinMo, etc, long before the iPhone came into being. Thus when the iPhone app came along, it’s NO SURPRISE that they charged $30, though I was hoping they would be smart and charge something less, like $9.95.
I have the SlingPlayer app for the iPad, and it works better than the one for the iPhone.
As for why it doesn’t work with the Slingbox AV, I don’t know, but it might have something to do with the chip. Sling used to use WMV, I think, until the Slingbox Pro-HD came out, and they transitioned to H.264. Since the iPhone or iPad can’t use WMV, I’m guessing they had to figure out which of their boxes could then use H.264, and perhaps it turned out to only be the Solo and Pro-HD. I’m fortunate that I got the Solo, and I can see why others would be annoyed.
How can this really be legal?
I mean, isn’t this basically re-transmission?
I remember the company that wanted to create a DVR in the could. It works just the same as a normal DVR but in the cloud. But that got blocked in curt because it was a “re-transmission”.
Not saying it should or shouldn’t vr legal. Just wondering. Because you could argue that it is a re-transmission of you can watch Live TV.
$30 seems too expensive an app, even if its worth it. Nobody buys an app that expensive. Most of the iPad apps sold are impulse buys, and $30 is no impulse buy.So I prefer this free apps for watching video……….
