  1. Honest story: I’ve heard from a “reliable” source that a Verizon dealer not far from where I live said iPhones in stock by Jan. 9.

Part of me was laughing because I couldn’t imagine that Apple would allow someone so far from Cupertino to be talking about it (or knowing about it), but the person who dished this little news to me as I showed off my iPad to her knows nothing about AT&T exclusivity deals and CDMA supply chains (all the crap we all pay attention to).

So I’m buying it a bit with my fingers crossed . . . I so want to join the 21st century.

  2. Verizon to join the dropped calls as the customer base grows!
The problem is that the phone companies are not ready. They have never been ready… even in the fiber optic deal they were not ready, let alone the wireless deal.

  3. …”Don’t do anything, just let it ride month to month. The wife and I did that for better than a year with no change in cost.

That’s the worst possible advice! You are suggesting that he donate money to AT&T!

If you don’t get a new subsidised phone immediately after becoming eligible, you are giving that subsidy money to AT&T every month.

Unless you can switch to the ‘Go’ plan (which can be some $15-20 cheaper than the usual iPhone plan), at the end of one year, you have given AT&T at least $200 for free.

My suggestion is, as soon as you become eligible, get a new subsidised iPhone. You can always get yourself out of that contract (ever heard of cellswapper.com or celltradeusa.com??) if by some miraculous chance Apple decides to break their 5-year exclusivity contract with AT&T and make iPhone available on Verizon.

  4. @Blah blah blah…
AC/DC rocks! Fortunately, I ripped my CDs to iTunes years ago and have been enjoying them ever since. The lesson is that consumers will not wait content. Or, to paraphrase Jurassic Park, you could say that “users find a way.”

  5. @ pre drag

Or he can get stuck paying an ETF($350)on a phone he doesn’t want or the service provider he doesn’t want.

Go Month to Month until you decide where you will give your business to Kabes.

  6. Nobody knows how to do math anymore. We know that Apple has a 5 (five) year exclusivity contract with AT&T. The iPhone was released in June of 2007. Add 5 to 2007 and you get: 2012. So, the earliest we should expect to see a Verizon iPhone is June 2012 — *UNLESS* Apple has bought their way out of the 5th year.

  7. Ok… Here is what I’ve heard…

The Verizon/Apple negotiations are presently on hold because of underdeveloped infrastructure. Until the verizon network is capable of handling the iPhone SJ will not let Verizon have the iPhone. The problem is… Verizon has put so much $$$ into fiber optics, there is no money left for the wireless towers, etc. required to make their network functional. So we wait for Verizon to get it’s act together… Not likely until June or Sept… Expect an announcement in Jan.

This is hard to believe but, I also heard the present iPhone 4 is already CDMA capable.

  8. I hear you on that KingMe! I did the same thing with all my CDs, It’s mostly for the kids of the future and I wish there more pages on iTunes like the one Apple provided for the Beatles. Having a free FULL video to (re)introduce some greats.

Verizon iPhone rumor couldn’t just sleep for the rest of the year huh?

  9. AT&T no longer has exclusivity. Just look at how they have been advertising the torch and the windows phone. This is a matter of building inventory for a good launch. I wish apple would not do it, but this will add billions to the bottom line. I bet it hits the stores Nov. 26.
