“The official Google Voice application was finally accepted into the App Store by Apple on Tuesday, bringing to the iPhone an application that was previously rejected and resulted in an inquiry from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission,” Katie Marsal reports for AppleInsider.
“The Google Voice App is a free download available in the App Store, and works for any users of the Google Voice telephony service,” Marsal reports. “Features of the application advertised by Google include:”
– Cheap rates for international calls
– Free text messaging to U.S. numbers
– Voicemail transcription
– Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls

I wonder if this app is as secure as their Android OS ?

I don’t get it. What’s the big deal with this app? If you don’t need cheap international calls, it seems superfluous.
I only use it for the free unlimited text messaging.
I thought it also did VOIP. Wouldn’t that allow for free phone calls over 3G and WiFi?
Dumb, dumb, dumb.
After all the complaining about not allowing Google voice in the app store, now Google doesn’t allow it to work with the iPod touch. Or maybe Apple doesn’t allow it on the iPod touch.
Either way, iPod touch version please!
It doesn’t install on the Ipad
Who cares about a phone on an iPhone
or more SMS capabilities on the iPhone
I have enough (unlimited) of that on my iPhone already
How about adding value to the iPad
Come on Google, let me use Google Voice on my iPad with a headset (obvious ¿no?)
@VOIP over Dumb Cellular Pipes
I do.
Maybe you like wasting $360/yr on text messaging. I’ve got much better things to do with that money.
Google sux.
So the ‘Japanese inspection’ is finally over…How lame was the whole treatment of all this? The control freakdom of apple world- while good for ensuring quality of apps- was looking at some competition with this one so they banned it long enough to kill off its heat. Sad and annoying. It’s like a kid who knows you’re better at a game he owns so he won’t let you play.
Of course it was the thin edge of the wedge approach from google to try to muscle in on apple world and get on the iphone and get in the game as it were (from both sides). That’s somewhat redundant now anyway with the rise and rise of android. Still it’ll be interesting to see how many people use it.
@Karlv Tell me WHY Google sux??
