Apple releases second iOS 4.2 gold master to developers

“Apple on Friday released a second gold master of iOS 4.2, its forthcoming software update, which may address Wi-Fi connectivity issues some have reported with the iPad,” Sam Oliver reports for AppleInsider.

“The new build, dubbed 8C134b, has replaced the previous gold master released to developers on Nov. 1,” Oliver reports. “Typically a gold master issued to developers is identical to the version that eventually becomes the final release.”

Oliver reports, “It is unknown what changes have been made in the second gold master, though it’s possible the latest version could be to address Wi-Fi issues that some users experienced with the pre-release build. Recent reports have claimed that Apple hoped to release iOS 4.2 sooner, but was forced to push back the launch to address issues with the software. However, Apple still remains on track for its promised launch window of November.”

  1. Is anyone else having problems updating iTunes 10.1? It downloads via Software Update but after agreeing and loading for a while I get a dialog box that states I have to quit iTunes and of course it quits the install.

  2. @Nightstar….iPhone 4 attenna issues…iPad early adopters report poor WiFi reception…yea, Apple never ships then fixes, do they? Bottom line, all companies can make mistakes and also discover errors once the product ships to market.

  3. What part of iPhone 4 dropping ONE more call per 100 (and without the benefit of large scale coverage with cases compared
    to 3GS) and only 0.55% of iP4 owners calling about reception doesn’t make it clear to you that THERE IS NO ANTENNA ISSUE SPECIFIC TO iPHONE 4?!?

  4. Evidently enough people complained that Apple publicly addressed antenna issues. I’ve personally perused a large thread on Apple’s forums that started right after the release of the iPad, where people are asking for help or complaining about weak WiFi reception, or dropping altogether. That has since been fixed with a software update apparently, but the fix came post iPad release. Loyalty for a product is admirable, but to think that Apple or any company is perfect and impervious to making mistakes or releasing something prematurely is just stupid.

    I own and use a Macbook Pro as my primary computer of choice, an iPad 64GB WiFi, and a 64GB iPod Touch. I love my Apple devices. I think they are extremely high quality. I just also happen to think Apple fans are some of the most obnoxious there is. That doesn’t help in the adoption of Apple products.
