Apple Store, Summit Mall to celebrate grand opening on Saturday, November 13

“Macintosh aficionados, rejoice: The new Apple store in Summit Mall will open at 10 a.m. Saturday [Nov. 13], Apple spokesman Nick Leahy said,” Betty Lin-Fisher reports for The Beacon Journal.

MacDailyNews Note: Address: 3265 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio.

“There are 320 Apple stores,” Lin-Fisher reports. “The Summit Mall store will be the sixth in Ohio. Right now, the two closest Northeast Ohio stores are at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst and Crocker Park in Westlake.”

  1. No Apple Stores here. We have to get our Apple fix through authorized Apple resellers. But they’re laid out like a US Apple store anyway so it’s not as if we’re missing anything. BTW the Shanghai store is superb. Apple engineering inside out.

  2. Apple also will open a new store at the University Park Mall in Mishawaka, IN on Saturday. According to the South Bend Tribune, the mall is preparing for lines to form the night before will follow the same security plan as used on Black Friday.
    anticipates a huge crowd.

According to the paper, “Stanchions and ropes will be placed outside the Apple store and extra security will be on hand for crowd control — precautions similar to those retailers take on Black Friday, which is more than two weeks away.

“Traffic is going to be excessive; I’ve heard stories. We’re preparing for that,” (U.P. Mall general manager Steve) Kempe said, noting how Mishawaka police have also been contacted for support when Apple opens its doors this weekend.

    Great News!

  3. My response.

“Summit Mall”. (sigh) Wish it was my Summit Mall.

    (eyes pop open)

Woo-hoo! Man-o-man, don’t have to drive to Cleveland or Columbus to go to an Apple Store! Hot damn!

  4. @Tommy Boy,

It looks like Apple is preparing an Apple Store for El Paso, which is very far from the nearest AS, the closest being the one in Albuquerque, I believe. I’m sure Apple will get to Harlingen or somewhere else in the valley relatively soon.

  5. I worked at Summit Mall in the Eighties, for a defunct chain called Koenig Sporting Goods. Yup, I’m an Akron native. I once did an observation at Firestone High School, where Chrissie Hynde went to school. That’s about as close to a brush with fame as I ever had in Akron. Other famous folks from there include LeBron, Walt Frazier, Devo (sort of… they were actually from nearby Barberton), the Black Keys, and Jim Jarmusch.

  6. @LordRobin:

My reaction exactly when I first heard about this a few months ago!

    @aka Christian:

I don’t know if it’s been a while since you’ve been back to Akron. If it’s been some time ago, you’d be pleased. Summit Mall has reinvented itself over the last 15-20 years. It’s a great location for an Apple Store!
